OK, so i bought these shackles off a member here on the site, in the OP it said they were from smaxx but there was a later edit that i failed to notice that said they were actually spring tech, the website they were from was suspensionmax.com with one x so their not SMAXX.. here is the link..
04-10 Chevy Colorado 2" Rear Lift Shackles

my question is, how the hell do these things "lower or lift" a truck, i will write out the instructions on the sheet and maybe one of you guys can help me out if these things are any good or will even work...

For Shackles:
1. Place jack under pumpkin and raise rear end to relieve pressure on shocks, remove shocks from mounts and lower jack to relieve pressure on springs
2. Unbolt stock shackles both top and bottom and remove stock shackles saving all hardware
3. Install shackles as follows: Using the top hole will lower the truck approx. 2'' The bottom hole will lower the truck approx. 1 1/2''

Ok so first of all, i don't understand why the directions say Top hole; LOWER 2'' bottom hole LOWER 1 1/2, won't these shackles lift the truck?

The dimensions of the hole centerline will be modified from stock. If the holes from the frame mount center to the spring mount center is less than stock, I guess it will lower. If the frame mount center to the spring mount center is more than stock, it will raise the truck.

You are essentially moving the spring pivot point closer to, or further from, the body.

Post a picture of your shackle if possible so we can see what this upper and lower hole you're referring to is all about.

I almost made the same mistake with the different suspension max(x) sites. The smax with one x is based here in CA... it is not the SMAXX that sponsors the Nation. If the shackles are longer than your stock ones then they will raise your truck's rear, probibly 2 inches. Based on the picture from the smax site it show only 2 holes, one for the frame mount bolt and one for the leaf spring mount bolt... it seems to me that you got the wrong install instructions

As the other guys posted, if you lift the rear spring to a higher point it will actually lower the rear. But if you install the shackle as normal, then it just move's the rear of the spring down, which push's the body and frame up. Understand? You CAN do both..but not too many people use them to lower a vehicle.

And springtech, or smaxx, either are fine man. hell mine are autozone $15 cheapo's. Wheel all the time in them never had a single issue with them.

Yea half the time I don't read directions if its a straight forward thing to do but if its very involved ill read them. Either put a bottle jack between the leaf spring and frame and jack up on it or lift on your trailer hitch to relieve pressure off the shackles. Or suspend the whole ass end and use a floor jack on the pumpkin.
