Ive been looking over the brake posts, and see alot of ppl are in limbo over the squealing.
Im wondering if anyone has a true fix. It does it mostly when I first take off after its sat For awhile
After that it seems to be ok.
05' 2wd truck. Someone had a link or some info from a TSB but I didnt see it.
Thanks in advanced.

Is it s squealing while driving or braking? If you don't hear any abnormal sounds when braking the shoes should be good. If the truck has "sat for a while" it could be surface rust on the drum(s). You are probably going to have to pull the drum(s) to know for sure.

The only Service Bulletin that I could find related to the drum brakes is 07-05-24-001B: Excessive brake grab, Aggressive drag, Lock rear brakes (Remove high spots from drum surface finish).

It might be getting close to time for new brake shoes. Decent ones are $43 and up. The factory spec replacements depending where you find them are $58 and up. What exactly do you have going on there? You could take it to a shop and have them done cheap if needed.

My rear brakes have started to squeal when I first brake in the morning. Wouldn't be an issue, but it's getting to the point that it's waking my 1-1/2 year old when I leave for work (downsloping driveway to the road).

I'll be swapping to summer tires within the next 30 days, so I'll take a look to see what needs to be done.

Sorry, guys, my phone hasn't been informing me of replys...
Yes HMMM G same exact problem. It could literally be a few hours and they do it. As soon as im on the highway, and come to a stop, all is quiet. Truck does have high miles, 185 bought with 176, just havent had enough warm days off to pull apart. Sounds like I will just get them turned and put new shoes on.

The other day, I removed them and wiped everything down . With as many miles as it has its crazy that the drus never been off. The little ribgs were still on the studs. Anyway, I took 80 grit to the shoes, (about 30% left, just to rough them up, and did same to the drum. So far... so good! :drinking28:
