Goodmornin folks and Happy New Year to all..

Whelp im knee deep in my timing chain replacement on my '06 chevy colorado 3.5L RWD.. and I took a break to let the prenetrating oil set in that dam Balancer bolt..lol.. As im doin that I took off the cam cover and Holy Sht.. 🤦‍♂️😅😅 Guess the Previous Owner never really bothered to keep up on the maintenance.. talk about caked burnt oil.. My actuator is swimming in what looks an feels like quick sand😂😂😂😂

And when I dropped my oil pan and took off the pickup for the oil pump, looked like my timing guides busted and sucked I to the pickup tube..lol

At least I know my oil pump works great 😂😂😵‍💫😵‍💫

I took my valve cover off to replace the gasket and clean out the pcv orifice and mine wasn't as bad as that but it was pretty bad. It's from the terrible pcv orifice design that caused my engine to crude up and burn oil. I've been slowly getting it cleaned with good oils and marvel mystery oil

I've used Seafoam for last 2 oil changes.. and I drive it for the 300 miles to try an work it out.. funny thing was my check engine light went off for about a week then came back on P0017.. then I changed oil and did it again..lol..

But as I think about it, I'm sure I have to drive 300 straight not total 😅😅😅

Finally got the bolt off now the harmonic balancer I bought doesn't fit 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Guess if not for bad luck I'd have absolutely no luck🤑🤑

Finally got my balancer off and front cover.. 1 of my timing chain guide/dampener plastic insert was completely off.. at least we know what was caught all inside my pickup tube..

My timing chain itself stretched about a 1/4", maybe based on the guide..

Whelp Everyone looks like it's "Official " like a Referees whistle! Another 1st Gen Colorado "BACK ON THE ROAD"!.. 🥳💥👏👏💥🥳!

Was a pretty interesting journey to say the least..lol.. I think I had our good buddy @cart7881 probably wantin to smak a few dimes outta my Quarter 😂😂😂 .. But so far so good.. almost at 200 miles and Zero check engine light (MIL) ..

I can here ol' @cart7881 in the background sayin, If I taught ya anything, call the part by the right fkn name will ya? 😂😂😂.. definitely had some laughs and a few stressed the fk out times also, a few code reds..lol

I slapped it all back together and went for a test ride.. Cart7881 says not to be alarmed if I go thru some oil in the beginning because I drained an cleaned the sht outta it..

So 1st 10min on freeway oil light comes on, Np, pull to a gas stop check oil, grab 2 quarts an go, 5 minutes later same thing, so I rinse an repeat.. 3rd time I pull in look under truck oil dripping 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Fk! MIL is Activated 😳😳😑 slap more oil an baby her home.. long story short,..

I got parts needed, I forgot the dam friction washer 🤦‍♂️😶‍🌫.. so leaking out front seal, leaking out service slot in tranny, so I ordered the dam Flywheel holding tool 🤑🤑,
Went to drain oil to replace front seal and friction washer..

Couldn't believe it.. 2 Gal of oil came out my pan 😳😳🫣🫣 as I looked closer.. my oil tube indicator was not in all the was.. which was why it was reading LOW !😂😂🥴🥴 which was why it was leaking.. well that and the friction washer.. dropped oil pan just to double check pickup tube and it was clogged full of all kinds of sht 🤬🤬

After those few hick ups shes lookin like a clean pair of sheets 😁😁😁 runs like a champ and I wouldn't trade her for the world.. I'll be in that 400k club now for sure 😎😎

thanks a bunch to all Individuals who who have assisted in anyway.. we have the Best Forum (IMO) a big thanks to the NATION for sure 🫡

I’m getting ready to do this-😓😓😓 2006 Colorado I5 3.5 240k I’m not a mechanic and I can’t afford one-but I’ve done my front brakes and rotors, exhaust manifold replacement 2x, and other small repairs. I hope I can get thru it. Going to look for a manual online to order also. Omg pls wish me luck-I need my truck back 😢

You'll be fine bro..

I'm no mechanic either but once I started to dig in, the I5 is pretty straight forward.. nothing much to her.. just take your time and don't rush it by gettin frustrated..lol.. and Do NOT forget to purchase the Flywheel holding tool..lol.. especially if your not a seasoned mechanic.. its pricey bout a 100 bucks.. but that tool right there will save ya time an energy..

Also, DO NOT Forget the Friction washer that goes on after you install main seal but before the crankshaft balancer.. Best of Luck.. you can do it 🤝
