With the OEM size of 205/70R15 at 27.1" OD your best two choices that would not create problems are: 215/70R15 at 26.9" OD and 225/70R15 at 27.4" OD. Neither would have a significant effect on the speedo or power and both would work with a narrow wheel. I would choose the 225 because it has 3/4" wider tread and about 150# higher load rating. It would be what we used to call a "Plus one" upgrade.
The original post is a month old so he probably has already bought something.

Yes my post above was an answer to a recent post made above mine which refers to a z71 with 265/75r15 oem size

OEM 2004-2008 z85 2wd is either 205/75/15 (base model) or 225/75/15.... not Ă—Ă—Ă—/70/15. The OP made a mistake

Currently have 265/75-15 on the truck now. I would like to go bigger with either 16 or 17 inch wheels. I would like to know what the max tire size I could run on this 2005 2x4 Z71 with no lift or modifications.

Like I said.... 265/75/16

If you want 17s then 265/70/17

Both are about 1 inch bigger in diameter than 265/75/15

... not a lot room to go bigger without lift or modification

when your all done and everything clears. find someone with a tech2 (dealer has them) and have them do a tire size compensation to get your speedo back to reading right. or get good at math. 30mph reads 26etc...

I put 255/50ZR16s on my 2004. it had 225/75R15s on it. went from a 28.3 tall tire to a 26.4 tall tire. my speedo reads 8% faster than im actually going. so 50 MPH requires me to do 54mph on the clock.

But math is fun!!!

I also know my daughter wont be speeding as fast as she thinks she is :)

But I did have the I5 and 5 speed manual on the 2004. I now have a 2005 2WD with I4 and 5 speed manual with the 205/75R15 I am only going up to 215/75R15 BFG AT KO2 since those ar ethe smallest ones they make. I do have an Eaton LSD installed.

mruss1993, a typical 31/10.5/15 has the same section width, .4" wider tread width, and .4" larger diameter than the 265/75R15 but it is rated at about 200lbs lower load capacity. The difference in size is only about 9 revs per mile. This is a tiny change and would not affect the gear ratio or speedo very much. The section width is the same so it shouldn't rub on anything either.

I knew they were really close in size and not worried about the load capacity, I have just read that there is not much clearance for tire size differences. Any idea on how big I can go keeping the stock wheel and not having to mess with the torsion bars.
I have a 2007 crew cab z71 4x4.

Probably 32x10.5 but that is a hard size to find for 15 inch wheels. 265/70/17 (basically a 32x10.5) was stock size on 2009-2012 z71s
