Don't use the Drive gear at all if you were that will dog you down a lot and work the motor and tranny for climbing the hills. Just keep it in 3rd for normal driving and downshift on the downhills but take it slow don't go flying down the hill and start downshifting at the last minute.

 

So pretty much when towing just stay in 3 will that be good on the high way too?

 

Oh ya will be just fine and u can still set the cc for highway speeds

 

for acceleration while towing, use 3. also use 3 when in hills. on flat areas, shift back to D.

for stopping, you might look into trailer brakes and a brake controller for your truck. it really does make a difference and is much safer.

 

Yea I don't know about the trailer brakes because its a small landscaping trailer from lowes I don't think you can put brakes on it

 

hmm, what size wheels? 12''? mainly, you'll have to look behind the wheels, if there is a square flange with a hole in each corner, than it is capable of having brakes. which ones...i'm not sure.

 

You need a trailer with brakes if your going to pull heavy loads.
I pull 2000lbs with an S-10 no prob with 500+ in the bed. to Daytona Beach
and back never had brake fade or smoke.

 

how many miles are on your pads and shoes? i have pulled about 3,500lbs with 33"s on mine and it wasnt too bad. i kept it in 3rd and didnt go over 70 on the highway. i would look into better brakes on the truck first

 

Brakes and rotors are brand new maybe 500 miles on them

 

Man i pull a 20 foot ski boat every year you need to slap it in 3 keep it there and I might add invest in a tranny cooler.

 

^^^ yea that's what I was thinking before I start fucking with shifting at engine braking and stuff

 

Does any one know if you can get aftermarket Pads for the drums?
