There is a covered (weather cap) 5 post (standard four female, 1 male) trailer light connecter plug on my Colorado that had been hanging in the mud, etc. with the cap off for a time. A few years ago, I pushed the hanging plut through a hole in the bumper, wired it in posistion, and closed the cap.

I never though I would ever need that connector inasmuch as I had not anticipated ever towing anything. However, I bought a flat bed and need to connect the lights to be road legal. The problem is that plug was full of Michigan salt and mud. I cleaned it out, with a pick and used spray Brake cleaner to attempt to clean it out. But, the connector is still full of that Green Verdigris that forms on Copper that has been exposed to the element. I am not sure if I can get the connectors bright enough to make good contact.

Therefore, I am looking into just replacing that plug on my truck, but don't know what is possible in regard to swalping out the five post connector but keeping the weather proof fitting that surrounds the standard plug (it has a couple of pop rivets holding it together. Is there a bebuild kit for that job? I do not want to replace the entire wiring harnes...I am way too old for that kind of stuff. So, what are my options?
