I recently lifted my 2010 Canyon (3.7, Z71, 4x4) 2 inches with the Badland Industries lift (I used the ball joint spacers and diff drop). I took it to get aligned afterwards and the shop gave me a number of issues, the biggest of which being my steering rack. After quoting $1700 for the bare minimum for it to maintain an alignment, I just took it home.
After reinspecting everything (the initial inspection being during and after the installation of my lift), I think the shop is at least mostly full of BS. The only thing I'm not sure about is the steering rack. I do all my own work on my vehicles, but I've never dealt with any part of the steering system. How do I know if something is worn or damaged? What should I look for? I've only put a few hundred miles on the truck, all of which have been on shot shock absorbers. So I have no idea how the truck is supposed to handle. My camber is still off from the lift, so I can't really pick out any recent steering anomalies.
If it makes a difference, it currently has stock size tires (265/70-17) and I've only done light off-roading in it.
Thanks for your help!
