vacuum leak

I have a 2004 3.5L ZQ8 and it seems that I have a good size vacuum leak. The leak is coming from the line that comes out of the rear of the intake manifold to the valve cover, located just under the MAP sensor. I can hear the leak very well, and when I put my hand and make a fist over the line, it quiets down. The funny thing is there is no crack in that plastic line. The line in question is about 1/2" in diameter, and about 5" long, with a 90 degree rubber elbow that attaches the line to the valve cover. Anyone else have this problem or had? Any feed back is appriecated.

And am getting a po171 code

OH OK...I think i know what you mean now. Sorry bro, over the phone there was a lot of static!!

Ok, so that line yoru talking about is under the MAF then, Ok...And when you make a fist over it it quietens down so that tells me you need to put a clap at both ends of that line. When you put your hand around it to make the fist I bet your pushing down n it sealing the leak...lol.

OK, So yoru talking about THIS hose right? Mine has a soft cover on her..but she is a hard line inside. The end has a elbow that in attached by nipple on top if the valve cover. Not the nipple on the before side of the TB but the after TB side. Look at my pic and tell me if thats the right one or not.

Ok sweet, well at least were on teh right page then.

Ok, go out and press down on the intake in that corner...see if the sounds disapates any at all.

Then, put your fingers around the joint there and see if you can pin point the sound at all. IF not, then put your finger around the hose like if you were doin what you did before...then move it up n down the tube to see if you can pick a spot out that may be leaking...if you can not find one at all, then it would be time to pull the intake off to me...gotta find out where the leak is coming from...

If thats it then you have no choice bro...Gonna have to pull the cover n everything off. Sorry bro...

(N.L.C) do not remove the valve cover or intake manifold just yet!!! It's normal for the hose you described to make a hissing sound and leak a bit. You could try and put clamps on it. The hose is where the fresh air for the crankcase ventilation system enters.

I highly suspect your code is caused by a leak elsewhere. Check all the connections in the rest of the intake system including the hose from the passenger side rear of the valve cover to the bottom of the black resonator box. You could also try cleaning the MAF sensor but only use MAF cleaner on it.

We tried that brother. He removed and has replaced damn enar half of the entire system! LOL

Normal for the hose to hiss? You mean its normal for a leak to occur there? If so, then this is the first time for that particular hose. The one that alaways leaks that I have seen is the egr hose. This one would be a first for me. And i can't find a single other thread stating that particular hose was the reason of the leak.

When we talked over the phone I had told him to clamp that hose first things first...there was a decent amount of this done over the phone, and through pm's. So we have tried ALL the normal shit...

Thanks for helping him though. MAYBE we can both help this guy out and figure this out! Poor guy been working on this for weeks now...

Well, when he puts his hand around it and cups it the hissing goes away. So to me, that means it gotta be a leak somewhere. The only hiss i hear from my 3.5 is from teh intake, and just a tad from the brake booster area...But the sound he hears is quite loud. He said I believe it was him, you can hear it very well...I could barely even hear it over the phone...

To be honest, anyone who is near this guy needs to help him. That's the biggie. He need's help that way...over the phone, the internet, and through pm's and I still have failed the guy. It's just a issue that needs to be delth with in person as far as I can tell...That being said, there has got to be a memeber thats within drivin distance...

Old thread here sorry but it seems like a very common issue.
I have the same noise. I noticed it more when i replaced the house in the back of the resonator box.

So is there a fix for this? I was thinking just get rid of that elbow and run one length of hose with no fittings. Then there is no reason that should leak.
