So i just painted my SS bumper cover over the last week and curious if there is a certain amount of time i should wait before washing it and/or waxing it
have heard different things:
no washing with soap for 30 days
no washing with wash and wax for 90 days
no waxing for 30 days
no waxing for 90 days
no clay bar for 6 months

any of this true?
if so, what?
i like my truck clean when i can, so im kinda curious what my limitations are

its really up to you.. everyone will tell you something different.

if you painted it and installed it already, then its hard enough to touch, meaning hard enough to wash.

the waxing thing, ive heard many things. ive worked in paint shops, i own my own paint shop, ive done the wait game, ive done the wax the next day thing, ive done the wax 90 days thing, ive never seen anything any diffferent. the only thing ive ever noticed is the production shops wait for 90 days or so to see if they have any come-backs.. if the apart is all nicely waxed, then its another step to clean all that wax off and maybe have a bad case of fisheyes.

wash your truck, keep it clean, wax it the next time you wax your truck, thats what i recommend.

If it's from a rattle can it will wipe off with a slightly damp towel with a bit of thinner on it. Just don't saturate it or wipe over and over. This only works if the paint is urethane or a catylized paint.

When the 2005 GTO I used to have came in after I ordered it GM some where along the way had repainted the rear fascia. It must of got scratched. But there was dry over spray up both sides of the rear quarter panel and back of the trunk lid. You couldn't see it but when you ran your hand across it it was rough like sand paper. A body shop told me to use enamel reducer on a rag. He said just don't rub hard and if you get it on plastic like the tail light lenses it will etch them. I did and it came right off. I did make GM replace the expensive tail light lenses cause they had over spray all over them also.

u can clay bar it. NEVER EVER EVER put thinner on paint. that shit will haze the clear and u will have to buff it. ive seen it done it and never recommend it. clear takes up to 30 days to fully harden, i say if its out in the sun everday for 2 weeks u can do about anything u want to do with it. well clear some crap at work with some dc 3000 throw it in the flash room of 140* and sand it with some 1200 and then with some 3000 wet and buff it in a hour. but yeah just give it about 2 weeks u should be fine. also learn how to buff and polish
