what's the verdict on HID polarity? I've read where it has to be switched, and I've read where people don't do it...

I bought my HID kit from DDM Tuning and had to switch the polarity. It is as simple as turning one plug 180 degrees, not hard in the slightest. When you plug your lights in to check and make sure they work, that is when you might have to flip the polarity. Plug them in and if they don't light up in a few seconds flip the polarity, its the connection between the ballast and the light itself.

No one with our trucks can say that...that i know of anyway. MAYBE if there using a relay or something like that. Fact is, these trucks switch the ground. Not the hot bro. Go outside with your meter, and check. You WILL have 12 volts to the bulb all the time when the truck is on. the switch actually gives the bulb a ground. With their relays...maybe they do it different. I myself, didnt wanna pay for something I didnt need. And yeah, I know about your other thread...some trucks have a REALLY touchy BCM..but for the most part, our trucks work just fine with a ddm tuning raptor set or any other set of HID's.

dunno about that. Mines a 04...and the only trucks I have ever worked on were older. SO maybe...But why would GM change the way they wired the trucks? makes no sense unless there were an issue or problem that came from wiring it the way they did on mine..if so, i want a new truck you GM mutha fuckas! LOL

Hmm... I did have a melted fuse to replace but i replaced it and no issues since. So jstu to make this more confusing, I'm gonna have to take a multimeter to my headlight circuit next time I take my grill off, (or if i melt another fuse any time soon)

The replacement fuse has been fine for at least 2 weeks now.

06 crew cab colly with the ddm tuning 35w raptors. had to reverse polarity for the ground and they work great. every once and a while the pass side doesnt kick on - i just have to flip the lights off and then back on but thats no big deal, dont really understand it but im just to lazy to call up ddm and get them to replace the ballast because they still work, its just a PIA.

Well this info would tend to lead towards the fact that you don't have to reverse IF you use a relay kit from them..or your own. Which makes perfect sense when you think about it in electrical terms. But for those of us like me who just simply wire it in without the harness, we do have to....Sounds legit to me...

So for ease of use for later viewers...

harness from them, no need to reverse since your then just using the signal from the switch as a remote basically.

No harness wired direct...flip it so its reversed.

Simple as that.

Oh, and a blown fuse would NOT come from you reverseing or not reverseing the relay correctly. A fuse just like any other conductor, does not care at all which way current is flowing. Only a spike, surge, or short would result in a blown fuse.
And i dunno how ANY of you got anything at all to come outta your lights when wired backwards. Mine didnt even try to light up...lol. They just sat there. Dunno IF that could damge them or not...from what I have read though, teh ballast are pretty hardy...but hell, there's always the chance!

Yep you got it, that's exactly right. I know from experience as we have two 2007 colorados, one with the wiring kit and one without. Both 35 watt raptors but the bcm didn't like the hids on the silver truck so I needed the wiring kit
