Which shocks are best?!

-The setup: In the rear, I have an 1" AAL from Smaxx along with an adjustable shackle from smaxx. It's set at 1" which gives me 2" total. I wanna go higher so I'm setting it to 2" which gives me 3" total lift out back with the AAL.

-The question: Which shock is best for this 3" rear setup. AKA, whats everyone using for similar setups?

Yes i have read the shock sticky and tons of related threads...
I've narrowed it to the three that I believe will work but each is different.

1. RS5301. Stock - 2.5" lift
Compressed: 14.75" Extended: 23"

2. RS5325. Rear AAL/Shackle
Compressed: 15" Extended: 24"

3. RS5190. Rear AAL/Shackle
Compressed: 15.8" Extended: 26.25"

So which shocks are best for a 3" rear setup? Even if its not ones of these three. I dont wanna spend money and get too short of shocks or too compressed shocks.
Thanks guys for ANY info or insight!

Ya the only thing is I'd have to set the shackles where their honna be to get my full 3" of lift and then disconnect the shocks as they are limiting my travel and then measure the distance. And then reverse all that again until the shocks come in and do it all again! Haha
Not that i dont love working on my truck but......

That pretty good advice. Didn't think about that. OK thanks I might try and measure tomorrow, we'll see. No one else is running a 3" rear setup though on here? I thought for sure someone would be running it. Super easy and cheap to get the 3".

So if my full droop is lets say 24", i should look for one that 24.5"?
And when parked on the ground if it's 14" compressed I should get a shock thats about 13.5". Is that right?? or would I want 14.5"?? I would think the 13.5" though

Thanks guys

This! The 5100's are the best bolt on shock one can buy for these trucks. they are light years ahead of rancho / skyjacker / procomp or any other "white" generic shock.

Longer,..

So say your full Bump is 25" and full droop is 35"(just random numbers), youd set the shock so at full bump you have about .5" of shaft still showing, and youd want to either limit the rear or account for the droop in length.

Im just used to setting up after market resi'd shocks. cause thats the same technique i use as well as any other shop that does that type of work.

Go big, get you some resi'd shocks ;) They make a night and day difference, trust me. lol did it on mine awhile back.:salute:

So found a set of shocks that work for 3" rear lift setups for future information.... Skyjacker has the hydro 7000 (H7084) platform for gmc canyons with 3-4" rear lifts

Dimensions
Collapsed: 14.82"
Extended: 24.84"

Prob not the best shock in the world but....

They also have the M9584 platform with the exact same dimensions, just alot more money cuz they are nitro shocks...

Anyone running either of these shocks??

Awesome. Ya I ended up ordering the hydro 7000. What lift setup are you running out back?

I will post pics of the length of them compared to my 3" rear lift for future reference

Sorry to hijack the thread Tadcoll (btw, everytime I see your posts on the board I read it "tacodoll" for some reason, gives me a smile) , but I was also looking into getting some new shocks for the rear for a 2" shackle lift just to start.

In browsing around I've found KYB's KG5190 and Rancho RS5325 that will allegedly fit comfortably with the .5" mathing that pittman posted.

Anyone run either of these? Just looking for some feedback. Money is coming soon so I'd like to jump at the chance to get all the parts to finish my lift.

All 4 are the yellow ones.

Front: stock Z71, BUT I'd suggest to put a couple (or 4) washers before the first bushing cup (upper assembly).

Rear: stock Z71 with custom made shock extensions. If you trust your parts guy, measure the stockers and get whatever is 3" longer; rumor has it the shocks for the S-10 ZR2 are the ones that fit.

Sooo for future information:

I went with the hydro 7000 shocks for the rear.. Look super badass on the rig. 3" of lift shows them off real well.
As for sizing: they fit great for a 3" lift. I probably should have done the rs5190's which are 2" longer to give me room to grow and lift some more :) because at full droop these are almost exactly the right length.
I did have to jack the axle up 1/4" to slide the bottom shock bolt through which is pretty spot on. Ecause i dont think ill be doing any rock crawling or jumps anytime soon to be at that full of a droop

On a side note the hydro7000's are wayyy better then stock and handle speed bumps like champs. Any stiffer wouldnt bave been nice considering i have an AAL and Shackle combo which stiffens her up as is..

I have almost the same setup with the hydro 7000 series and @ $31 per shock shipped to the house can't beat the price. Didn't go the rancho route since they are supposed to be stiffer and didn't want to pay for bilsteins.
