Been a while since I posted. The truck is running now, have to finish the exhaust and button up a couple little things and she should be road worthy. Pics and a video to come this weekend.

Now I can get back to the SAS and adding 4x4 to a 2wd Z71.

I hear ya. Every project I undertake is like that.
I am so ready to be moving back to putting the solid axle up front and making it a 4x4. I have even been researching that while I try to fix the other issues and have made an executive decision to use different axles. I am going to get some factory D44 axles from a JK jeep and be a little wider axle, but I can reduce my Offset/Backspace on wheels and keep the track width with in 1 inch of what it is now. Still going twin stick NP 205 and going 4:56 gears. Probably buying those hummer hubs like you have also. Moser will make me a set of six lug axle shafts for out back at a reasonable price. May even run a full on Jeep suspension with coil spring s and a 4 link out back and a coil spring radius arm front suspension.

Just an idea, and will have to see how it plays out.

How is your SAS doing? Any trail time? Working like you envisioned?

My SAS is working really well. I've got several off road trips logged on it and it's awesome. It goes anywhere I point it on the trail and tracks straight on the highway at 70 mph. That being said I learned alot during the process and discovered a couple things I would have done differently.

I discovered a company called Thorparts while I was already halfway through the build. They basically have a complete SAS kit for the Hummer H3s that would have made the entire process much easier and more predictable. I recommend contacting them if you have SAS tech questions. The guys name is Christian Wilson and he is a wealth of knowledge.

I also discovered that leaf springs aren't a cheaper solution to an SAS. Leafs are "easier" in some respects but I could have spent about the same amount and used coils with radius arms or links. I like the general durability and simplicity of a leaf spring suspension but could have got more bang for the buck with coils.

Live and learn.

Man I wish I lived where you do. So much more fun off road than old flat Florida! LOL. I am going the route I am going simply because I can use production aftermarket Jeep parts. Control arms, coil springs, and etc. Not to mention that I have several Jeep guys I ride with down here and I have lots of information. But, I think I want to stick with the 6 lug pattern on wheels so I can get the Thor Parts front hubs and have the regular ABS.

UPDATE! It has been 8 months since my last update. The truck is up and running now. All the bugs are worked out of the LS Swap for now. Only thing left for the swap is to install some proper exhaust. Pics tonight or tomorrow. After a few months of recouping some savings the SAS will be back on.

Glad to hear. I understand time delays for sure. My latest Colorado project will probably take a couple months longer than scheduled. 😆

first i have seen this thread
read through it all, looks like a fun build going on
what were the issues with the ls swap? i saw low oil pressure and something else

I had just a bunch of gremlins, The low oil pressure issue, fuel delivery at a consistent pressure. Fuel pump failure, twice. Cheap bosch pumps. Has a higher quality Quantum Fuel Systems pump in the stock fuel pump carrier now. A vacuum leak that was a bugger to find, turned out to be a hairline crack in the intake manifold. Swapped that and ding ding no more leak. Typical stuff you get when swap a used 99 thousand mile motor into a truck that the motor did not come in. I still haven't figured out the Cruise control and getting it to work. But, it is running and driving.

Wow, over a year since my last post. The truck runs sometimes and sometimes not. I am still plugging away at it. Mostly computer issues, and I am not that great with the HP tuner stuff. Have a replacement E40 to try out. I have already had to fix some harness issues that I encountered. Long story there. Should have explored other options better before buying the CPW harness. I will try to keep the updates coming here instead of letting it sit for so long. SAS is still a go as soon as I can make the engine swap reliable.
