2014 Chevy Colorado Opinions?

Well it first started as concept pictures, which I knew couldn't be the new Colorado, then recently it was finally announced the final looks.

To start with, Chevy has made a great breakthrough with this release. Its the first ever diesel Mid-sized truck that will be sold in the United States meaning it's going to be running off of Chevy's Duramax. Since it's diesel, it basically meaning you can modify the hell out of it :D. As for the interier, the look has increasing changed.

Now, I'm not sure if that's even what the interior actually looks like but compared to the current Colorado's, the interior looks far more nicer and hopefully includes a working stock radio :eek:mg:.

My opinion: I think its the ugliest thing I have ever seen placed on the streets. To me it looks like something straight out of a Toyota factory with ugly bulgy looking parts. It's great to see Duramax used and it raises an eyebrow if that same engine could be used in any previous Colorado but the design is a waste. I'm not too happy with the look as you can tell and their will always be more designs in the future but I think this was a "swing and a miss" for GM on this one.....

Anyone got opinions?

I'm not too sure about the name but everyone is calling it the Colorado/Canyon for now. I don't think an official name has been released yet.

Wow, that's a lot of info. Everything under the hood looks great, other than only one engine option, but the body is just horrible. Diesel is awesome but that design is just horrible... The interior looks new but it looks more like it belongs in a luxury SUV than a mid-sized truck.

Mixed feelings on the interior. I like the steering wheel audio controls, but why is the bottom spoke so darned thick? Also like the cluster. The center stack looks cruddy to me, maybe I'll change my mind once I see it in the showroom, but what's with the 'circle' environmental controls? Also, the radio is an odd shape, meaning changing it out is now an ordeal. Rest of the dash is very... plain. Possibly even moreso than our current ones.

What is that on the passenger side behind the rear view mirror?

What's the dial on the center console? Going to guess it's the 4x4/traction control? Seems like a silly spot for it, IMO.

Door controls are too far forward to be comfortably reached, IMO as well. At least, they look further forward than what we have now.

Front end looks like a Traverse. Not a fan of that big flat area just under the headlights, either. It's like they were planning on an update of what we currently had, then changed direction and just smoothed over the old headlight location.

Do not like the rear windows. They curve up at the bottom. Ok, great, you just made it uncomfortable to rest your arm on the window sill when the window is down. Good job!

Like the idea of a Duramax though. What's the transmission? Did they decide to put more than a 4 speed behind it?

That silver color doesn't do it any favors, either. Very... plain.

Damn GM, you dun messed up.
Diesel is the only decent thing about the truck.

The front end looks like a Chevy Malibu or something, the interior is nice but it's a truck, I'd be afraid to get it dirty on the inside. Currently most of my dash has dried mud on it. It's a truck, I shouldn't look at it and wonder if it would be able to hold up to years of abuse. It just looks "Fragile".

I love how the whole face looks like one part.

Smack the bumper good....replace the whole face...:gd:

I wouldnt drive that ugly truck, just to have a diesel i could mod.

Cant wait to see how much they ask for it.

^^ X2... Ugly! GM needs to keep the front ends different so it actually looks like a truck.

If there was an aftermarket company that made a different grill and lights, i would buy the truck and immediately change the front end. I must admit that the engine options look good and the offroad capabilities look good too!

The only good thing that will come out of this is that now the value of our trucks will go outrageous.

I think there needs to be a special award for the first new member here who gets one. Or is it even a 355 anymore?

Cool that you can get the Duramax but I def don't dig the exterior styling. Inside looks nice though. The front end and the fender shape, ruin it for me. Not saying I wouldn't buy one though.

Is this confirmed as the finalized exterior for the US release (if so, link please)? I'll hold out hope that the Canyon looks better, but this looks as bad as speculated. If the Canyon is equally as ugly, I may find my way into a Pro-4X Frontier instead.

The positives this thing has going for it:
- Diesel engine option.
- 6-speed transmission = better MPGs for people who daily drive their trucks (not critical when buying a truck, but over 18mpg highway is very welcome).
- The new DI 4.3 V6 has me interested. Rumors I'm seeing point toward about 280hp/330tq, which would be pretty damn stout in a small truck. Will probably knock down about 23-24mpg highway also.

Overall, I like the interior, even though it looks dated already. The instrument setup reminds me of the 2004-2006 GTO and the 2008-2009 G8. I was hoping to see a bit more upgrade here, like the Silverado.

I also agree with CodeNinja on the HVAC controls and stereo setup - not aftermarket swap friendly at all due to shape (modify the trim plate possibly?). I'm okay with the 4X4 dial being near the shifter. Reminds me of the new Durango setup (they use a dial for the gear selection too - no more shifter to hold).

The power window controls seem okay to me though. They are similarly placed on my fiance's VW Tiguan, and there is no difficulty getting to them. I do hate the window frame on the rear windows as others have mentioned.

Very well said, a man who reserves judgement. And no, regardless of what many are basing their "looks" on this isn't the final design, ive heard many times GM will be updating stuff for the US market which would include the front end, maybe some interior (Ihope they move that shifter off the floor so it frees up storage), suspension tuning, tire size, engines ect...

In Mexico the Lowest new trim level cost is about 17% above the highest previous trim level.
Mexico has to import this thing from Asia where in the US it will be built here, can't base price on that.

the only thing they did right on this thing is put the shifter in the center!
They messed up big time on that, do you not like storage space???

Funny, many people call it lame and boring again in terms of interior design. Just goes to show what I have said before, looks are in the eye of the beholder. Where some think this thing is hideously ugly, others think it isn't bad. I don;t think I have heard any talk of it being gorgeous or awesome looking. It's all perception, people need to stop basing and telling how this thing will do based on their opinion. Just because it doesn't look how you want it to doesn't mean no one else will like it or the thing will be a huge improvement over the old and catch customers. This rant isn't aimed at you chevy, just making a point based off your observation.

6spd on all models.

Silver isn't very flattering in that model.

They are supposed to update the front end before coming here so this isn't how the front will look, side though probably.

Not sure how you can make that judegement on the window controls with out sitting in it?

Nothing can be more plain than our current colly. The rear window kick up is just like the tacos...

As much as I like the new diesel idea and think it will help sales I think I would stick with the large V6 when they come especially if it gets the 4.3. After seeing what the 5.3 does power and mpg wise I would imagine with the cost savings up front, not a huge mpg difference, a big hp gap and lower maintenance costs would sway me to the gasser. Not to mention cheaper fill ups though more frequent and quieter. If the 4.3 gets 25-26 in the full size it should get 26-27 hwy in the colly with DOD on it.

Yea I'm not going to comment until I see some final specs/product. Too much speculation to fight over IMO.

Powertrain upgrades will be worth it IF they follow through & don't de-rate their capabilities (engine/trans).

I'm not a fan of the pictured exterior. Just doesn't work for me.

We're talking about the brand new 4.3 with direct injection - the one that is coming in the 2014 Silverado. Also, those numbers are projected - real world mileage could vary. I'd personally be more than satisfied if a 4X4 Crew Cab could knock down 24 highway. If I cared too much about gas mileage I wouldn't be looking into a truck.

Would be nice if the front does get changed. Ill have my colly paid off a year or so after this comes out so that gives me time to see what problems this has, and hopefully the diesel option price goes down because we all know its going to be outrageous

The "Dodge" Dakota is dead.

Ram Trucks are putting a V6 Turbo diesel in their 1500 that should produce high 20's hwy MPG.

I expect the American Colorado Diesel to get 28-30MPG highway.

The looks are not perfect but they are growing on me and i'd buy one, used.

Well I'm really excited to have a diesel option, and I could get used to that interior (would still prefer a column shifter, though), but that front end is so horrible, it would probably outweigh the other selling points enough for me to go with something else (and I have to say that the diesel option is a HUGE selling point).

FIX THE EXTERIOR DESIGN, GM!!!!!
