Cage Nuts Spinning removing Body Mount Bolts. Help!!

Greetz All,

Previously I had done 1" Puck Lift using McMaster Carr 10.9 Bolts no problems.. I have a PA Body Lift which I was planning on installing but had some problems with cage nuts:

When I went to unscrew these body mount bolts ; 5 of the bolts (2 front, 3 cab mount bolts) are spinning.. Cage nuts have dislogged (broke the welds) to the frame. I have tried a crap load of PB blaster on the fronts bolts w vice grips but still can't loosen the bolts using breaker bar. I haven't cut through the floor to PB blaster the cage nuts under the cab but I was planning on that (if I could get some success with the fronts; which I haven't yet).

Anyone have any experience with this, I was thinking about either sawzall'ng these 10.9 bolt heads and push up the bolts to remove and using new nuts for body mounts or either try the PB blaster vice grips method after the PB blaster has had some time to really soak into those nuts.

Any advice would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Damn sounds like you are in a pickle. Have you tried using an impact gun. The front ones by the bumper. You should be able to get a wrench or vice grips on. There is access from the side behind the inner fender. Would try and soak them with PB. As far as the cab mounts not real sure.

What's if you cut the head off the bolt is there any way to get te but of of the top? Then you could just put a new bolt with a washer and nut on assuming you can get a wrench or socket up there to hold it.. Idk

Hi Moody/Mike,

Thanks for the replies.. Yea I think I'll retry again witht he PB blaster & vice grips through that access area in the front behind the grill, didn't work last time but maybe the PB blaster had more time to do its magic before I retry this. I don't have impact gun just using breaker bar/socket with vice grips on the other end

As for the cutting, yes if I cut the head bolts off there is clearance in the front to pop them out I believe. I will have to cut the floor to access the cab bolts but it is just a very thin layer to cut through no probs.. I just wonder if I'll be able to do it with 10.9 grade bolts with sawzall??

On my 06 one of my rear cab bolts cage nut bent the cage and was just spinning so i had to cut the floor. I used a cutoff wheel and cut 3 sides of a square and folded the floor up fixed the nut tackwellded the floor back in place and covered it with seam sealer and put the carpet back

As for the front. Just pull the inner fender back and you have a straight shot at the nut and bolt. It looks like to me that you could get a wrench to lock up against part of the housing the bolt runs thru and socket on the bottom, or vice versa and be able to get those loose. Torch would be nice. You would not nec have to have acetylen torch. I have used a propane torch before. Now may take a little longer but will do the job.
