FYI - The 2010 GM Colorado Online Reference Guide has a nifty tool for figuring the weight of your truck. It takes you through a series a questions about your truck and then calculates the Front/Rear/Total weight based on the options you select.
Weight Calculator (lb.)
------------------Front----------Rear----------Total------
Base--------------2,045.0---------1,608.0---------3,653.0
Options-------------250.4-----------464.9-----------715.3
Total--------------2,295.4---------2,072.9---------4,368.3
GVWR-------------2,533.0---------2,896.0---------5,000.0
Total Payload--------237.6-----------823.1----------631.7
Yes, I was sitting in the truck (250lbs).
Remember my truck's loaded, V8, sunroof, side airbags, leather power seats, tonneu cover, cowl hood, bed rug, stereo, etc... it all adds up.
My truck with no spare, me and my buddy, and some stuff in the bed was 4340. Subtract me and him and it would be about 4080 without the spare. I have an 08 z71 ext cab.
The weight compared to other truck of a similar size is mainly the frame. Our frame is boxed which is a rare thing with midsize pick-ups so it has a lot more steel to it.
Definitely my front frame rail took a 30mph hit from a dodge neon because he drifted into my lane and it tore his entire hood and intake manifold right off the car and ended up spiked into his engine, it didn't even move an inch.
Cat verified scale at a truckstop, doesnt mean much, but im also 165 lbs. Dont have a spare either.
