engine trouble after fueling

Ok, I bought this truck 4 weeks ago now and each time i fill it it either fails to start on the first try or it starts and shudders and shakes till it calms down, then runs fine other than the annoying low idle whenever I get off the fuel pedal. I cleaned the mass air sensor and plan on doing the throttle body this weekend. Anyone else ever experience this?

Mine does this, only after I fill it up with gas. Any other time it starts up perfectly, but if I fill it up and go to start it, it lags and takes about 3-4 seconds to start and when it does, for the first few seconds the RPMs want to bottom out so I have to give it a little gas to keep from doing that.

I have no idea what it is, my truck is in great shape. I thought maybe it the fuel filter needs cleaning, but I'm a partial dumbass on some things.

The 4 tiny throttle body bolts do no require 89ftlbs of torque. You'll snap them all off if you try tightening them that much.

There is an o-ring seal. I use a criss-cross pattern to torque it in 2 or 3 stages and make it common sense snug. I don't actually know the value or maybe I would bust out my torque wrench.

When you clean it, be sure to use the proper cleaner. And lint free rags, such as a shop towel. Do not scrape it clean with any tools. That will score the throat and cause bigger problems. It's pretty simple to clean, but may take a 2nd application after wiping away the gunk the first time.

OK... I will try and go at Lunch today.

Well, I did a Search on Google, landed here.
I figure this was the best place to Reply.

I used to visit here often when my truck was new.
Love my 2005, it looks great, up to now never a problem with it.
The most trouble free vehicle I have ever had.
Not thrilled about the new ones.

I put a Can of Seafoam in, and it looks to have helped???

I would like to try and fix myself vs going to the Chevy Dealer.
It runs great when until I fill Up my Tank.
Yes, I do fill to the Top until the Pump Clicks off, and keep filling more to get the most in my Tank. But I do this all the time, with Premium Fuel.
This is the Second Tank I have experienced this on.

Thanks,
Keith

I just dropped my Colorado to the Dealer.
They say the code is calling out a timing issue and a miss-fire.
But they didn't seem very confident on any more than that.

They asked me to leave it, and a mechanic will do a Full Diagnostic on it tomorrow.
$90 to do that, and it will go towards the repair.

It's just strange only when your at an idol, and that was intermittent.
Maybe the Full Gas tank isn't a variable here?
I just don't know.

It never killed, but sure sounded bad with all kinds of knocking and shaking.
I just hope that didn't cause any damage to the engine.

I have 90K on the Truck, so I hope I can squeeze by another year.
I am very interested in the Diesel 2018.
They had about 10 Z71 Crew Cabs on the lot...
Price varied from 25K to 38K.
I will post the results.

What is left of this forum is Gen 1 owners. Try the forum at the link below and you may get more specific answers.

Generally what you describe is likely the fuel evap system. There is a tube from the tank to the engine that is supposed to burn fumes. Liquid fuel is not supposed to get in there, but maybe it is somehow at each fill up. Have you tried not filling up all the way just to see if that avoids the rough start issue? I know that overfilling (topping off after the pump auto stops) risks getting liquid fuel into the system.
