For anyone with a muffler dumped before the axle

Just wondering what muffler your running and how it sounds. I have a magniflow now which sounded great until I notched my frame and I had to dump it before the axle. Now it's loud as hell and drones. I get enough attention from the police as it is and don't really feel like getting any more tickets. Let me know what your running. Thanks.

Ill tell you how to eliminate alot of drone and nasty sounds. Get rid of the actual dump and leave the muffler.

I had a magnaflow on stock taip pipe, then dumped, then removed the dump and now a new taip pipe.

The muffler before axle with no dump sounded SO much better than the samething with the dump.

Now i have this

i have the same muffler but almost NO drone and i still get my nice exhaust note. :D

Ive been thinking about trying one of these mufflers and in your case it may help you out.

Dynomax Performance Exhaust | Mufflers | Dynomax VT Muffler

There stainless steel and summit has them for about 100 bucks

I was listening to them on you tube and they seem to work pretty good. But I have yet to see or hear one in person.

When I had no cats and a stock muffler with a dump I had no drone.. I miss that

It drones like a mother fucker now :shrugs:

I need to put my magnaflow back on and take the flow fucker off of it but I like how the flowfucker sounds up high  hate it the rest of the time

Im in the same boat. Just got a notch and had to dump it before the axle. I have a flowmaster 40 and the drone/ sound is killing me. I'm going to get a shop to run it all the way back

I have used Dynomax products and was very happy w/the exhaust note and being not too loud, and the longevity of the product. I haven't tried anything on my '09 GMC I-5, but I would investigate the Dynomax products. Also the harmonics of a downward versus side-facing exhaust should be obvious. The sooner the sound from the exhaust encounters a surface, the more resonance you are going to have. Stand next to a wall & pop an inflated brown paper bag and see how much louder it is than when you do it out in the open. Crude, but an effective demonstration of acoustic reflection and your perception of sound levels.

I'm gonna check out the dynomax, either that or have my muffler shop make a pipe that will work with the notch. I could'nt believe the difference of going from having it dumped after the axle to before the axle. My back wall of the cab sounds like it vibrates now during certain rpms.

I get that vibration too. I thought it was the cup holder that covers the jack
