Excellent work Gerry!

This should be the first mod for any 355 owner, its free and proven to perform!

Awesome mod and really feel the performance gains.

To help answer some of the noise concerns I have added an exhaust wrap to reduce the tiny sound, with the combination of the wrap and my Borla SS single exhaust.
The sound is acceptable and should sound like, A sporty sound with some nice aggressive tones. It's a truck not a car!

This mod, plus a tune (I have a a mail order tune) really helps performance. I pulled on a charger while I was pulling my boat trailer. It was great, he had racing stripes, loud muffler and had a couple buddies with him. Of course, my boat trailer is only 250lbs, but once I got to 4000rpm, he was done.

I assume he had a V6 model then:shrug:

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

Anyone know the part # for the exhaust manifold gasket ? I got a new donut gasket, I definatly do not want to hear exhaust leaks after I do this and will replace all gaskets if necessary...

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

is it possible to punch the catylist out without removing the manifold???

The exhaust manifold gasket is metal and holds up extremely well. Definitely reusable.

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

I already ordered a new, didnt want to have to tear into it twice.

Just need to punch it !

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

One of my many past weekend mods, me and a buddy gutted my pre-cat.

I started with the pounding method out of the O2 sensor but we then progressed to cutting it in half and getting it out that way, MUCH easier. Welded it back together no problems.

Found 1 exhaust manifold bolt snapped, looks like it happened on original assembly, rust had formed at the breaking point. Just running with 1 less bolt now.

Sound is interesting, definatly noticing a bit of an empty can sound but it isnt really bad or anything. I also installed my MBRP SS exhaust so needless to say, the sound is completely different. Took a couple of pics, will post later.... (at work)

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

Mine had a bolt break as well! The one closet to the cab on the bottom...I put the wrench on, and before i ever started turning at all it just felt like it slipped off. So i go to put it back up there and I was like wtf? It was in my damn socket!

I dunno why....but all the sound clips on here sound nithing at all like my truck...it sounds much deeper and growls at you....I did install a camaro tip that made a nice diffrence though, so I guess thats what did it. I have teh cat delete and a flow 40 series...

Yeah I would strongly advise you to not try this. The header bolts break easy enough on their own.

Just pull it out and punch it, its not that hard. It took me 10 minutes to clean it out with a big screw driver through the O2 sensor hole, and a big breaker/prybar from the collector end.

Once done I took the compressor and blew it out! BAM that was it!

On the safety end of the business, make sure to wear some eye protection and a mask. That shit should not be inhaled.

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

Just a reminder to be careful when you are working the screwdriver through the O2 sensor hole so you don't damage the threads.

Yes! A very easily over looked detail!

The mounting bracket to transmission dipstick tube? If that is the problem then you can braze (or have a shop do it) the old tube back to the bracket.
Repair and reuse.

Get that CEL code/s scanned.. Gas mileage should come back after you address the CEL. AutoZone will scan it for you for free...
There should be no codes from this mod, if done properly.

Na not the bracket there's a plate that the bracket bolts to on the block right above the manifold

Re: How-To: Exhaust Manifold Catalytic Converter Deletion

Do you mean the EGR blockoff plate? How in the hell did you crack that?

You mean the small thick aluminum plate in the center of this picture, correct?
