I don't know the specifics of it all, but I know that the length of the port, which I'm assuming is what you mean by the baffles, determines the tuning frequency of the enclosure. Properly designed ported boxes allow the subwoofer to hit the lower notes better than a sealed enclosure.

interesting.... so whats the benefits for making a "pathway" for the air to flow?

If, by "pathway", you mean having all the turns in the port, that is called port bending. Basically, the port needs to be longer than the enclosure will allow in a straight line so you bend the port to make the correct length fit. The length is measured along the centerline of the port.

If you are referencing the angled pieces in the corners of the port and sub chamber, they help diffuse the dead spaces in the corners and create less tubulance in the moving air. It also strengthens the corners of the enclosure. This increases the efficiency of the enclosure.

The 3/4" MDF didn't cause the box to weigh too much. The box isn't as big as you might be thinking. It is about 30"x15"x6". I would guess it weighs 20-25lbs total.
To 05bowtie, I can design you a box for your truck and whatever subs you want if you are interested. Just PM me and let me know what sub and amp you are going to be using and what kind of music you like to listen to. This goes for any other members as well.

And a little update. I got everything installed and working at about midnight tonight. Still have to go back and clean it up a bit. I will post some pictures and videos within the next day or so.
Has anyone else had a problem with their headunit trim ring not fitting through the opening? I had to remove mine from the Kenwood because I couldn't get the dash back on with it.

Hell yes. My trim ring for my 9887 won't fit unless I trim about 1/8" of the bezel out. pisses me off.

At this point, that is a final picture of the box.
I already have the box installed as it is in the picture, but I am going to pick up some black carpet and cover it as soon as I have some more spare time.
All of my wires still need to be hidden as well. After that I will snap some pictures and a video.

no offesnse bro but you need to find a way to put the trim ring on. would look much better IMO

I agree completely. Just haven't come up with a solution yet. I did some grinding on the trim ring until there was nothing left to remove and still have it attach. I am going to try to find another dash piece in a junkyard to hack on. I don't want to modify the current one such that if I end up putting the stock receiver back in it will look bad.

That's what I have read about them. I still haven't adjusted the amp too much and it sounds solid. They need about 6" of depth because of the pole vent. Not sure how much room you have under the back seat, but if you can work with that depth hit me up and I will try to get you a ported box design. From what I have heard they don't really recommended putting them in sealed boxes.
