What's a good mileage to start thinking about changing the serp belt? I'm at 75,000 miles on my 2006 Canyon. Mostly highway mileage. Belt looks pretty good with no visible cracks, but I live in hot Central Florida. Thinking about heat cycles & it's effect on belt stretching. Ideas? I like to prevent issues, but at the same time why be wasteful if the belt looks pretty good, right? Thanks

I mine at 71k when I replaced the auto tensioner.

Mine truck is an 04 3.5; I'm at 94k now!

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna let it keep on rolling. No cracks or squealing happening. Decided to tear into the front brakes instead. What a pain that was! 2WD with ZQ8 suspension, what a stupid design on just getting the rotors off. Second time into the brakes on this truck since new. At least I knew what NOT to do this time in dis-assembling the hubs.

I always carry a spare belt just in case. Even if you don't have the tools to fix it while on the side of the road, someone will. However, they won't have a belt to fit your vehicle (unless you drive an Altima with the 2.5 ).

haha I have already checked my belt twice, it has 49,000 miles. It's an 08, and I've had it since May. One of the first things I did was check the belt.

It's good piece of mine to change it if you feel like you want to. There are worse things you can spend money on, like spark plugs. But like advertised earlier, miles aren't always the 'go-by'. Check it for cracks. Some people will have more wear than others based conditions, such as heat. Heat is bad!

I had to change my first one at about 50K but with living in the Midwest with salted roads it was already starting to crack. Replaced it with a Gatorback. Had to replace the tensioner and idler pulley so I replaced the belt at 120K. Got all the parts cheap from Rock Auto.

Just a heads up...I've seen on here many times to go with the Gatorback belt. Didn't think about it until around 75K miles I replaced mine with a 'Delco' (I think) belt on my '05 and I'm at 105K and this thing was squeeling like I've never heard from a belt...I seriously thought it was a bearing from alternator or water pump, or both (it was that bad!) I went the least expensive way first - got a Gatorback off ebay for $26 and if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would've never believed it....quiet as a mouse now. This site has came through for me more times than I can count. Thx!
