Hey guys. I just got an SS bumper compliments of 06singlecab! Was doing a minor mock up just to see how big of a pain it was going to be to install it once I get time.

Sorry if this has been asked or there is already a thread about it. I've looked via the google search bar but nothing answered my questions.:th_crazy:

This is where I'm sitting now. I have the SS cover, the lower lip to the front bumper removed. Do I need to remove the other plastic piece from the bumper, leaving only the chrome trim, to install it? If not, how does the center piece of the bumper get passed the pre-existing plastic bars that are in the center of the bumper?

Thanks guys!

What i did. I Grabbed a long flat head screw driver. Put it between the chrome and plastic and just go to town with it. Your going to break all the brackets.
There is no way in saving them and you dont need them anymore.
There is no need to take off your grill. I did because i drilled a screw and put some 3M double sided take so the bumper wont rechape .

You do not have to take the bumper off to get the plastic off. That is if you did not want to. You can reach all the clips from underneath. Since you are lowered you may have to jack it up. Using a pair of angled side cutter pop the push pins out, then with a small pair of pliers squeeze the other clips together and push slightly forward. Comes right off.

Even prep'd right, the bond still isn't as good as they would like to be able to give you a warranty on it. I've seen properly prep'd chrome still have the paint flake off way to easy and on the front of the truck it's gonna get peppered with rocks and other debris.

For what it would take to get it back to bare plastic, you might as well buy a paintable cross bar. I mean it's not like you can just sand blast the plastic, so they have to remove it all buy hand. If you want to paint your current cross bar and save some money, you could always strip it back down to bare plastic, then they would probably be more than willing to paint it and you would get an understanding as to why they don't want to.

get you some white plasti dip and paint it white...make sure you paint it with 3-4 coats of paint and you shoud be good.

it will come off if you dont like it or ever want to go back to stock.

i did the center of my grille with it at furst to see if i would like it...then painted it with black bed liner.
