got a buddy of mine with a colly and his starter is going out..it click, click, clicks when trying to start the truck.

(before i get riddled with questions:)
1) battery checks good, and has been load tested and is fully charged
2) all fuses are good

He has access to a tech manual, and says it is a 5 hour job....
so we have a general idea of what has to be done.

BUT, my question is,
has anyone ever removed their starter without taking the intake manifold off?
cause that is the route it tells u to go in the tech manual

that is the question i would like to get answered, please..

thanks in advance for any help!

If you hunt there is a thread of someone who was able to do it without removing anything. It was not a fun time though.

as far as i've heard its a huge bitch, remove the intake manifold, then i've heard slightly lifting the intake side of the motor access it better. totally nuts. fingers crossed i dont have to do that anytime soon....

Well I remember Don said to unbolt the motor mount on the drivers side and carefully lift the motor on that side will give you some more room/better access!

Even though the battery tested "OK", I'd still put a known good battery in that pig just for kicks and giggles. Batteries are funny (not) sometimes. Would just take 5 minutes and just might save you a handful of scraped knuckles. JMO.

Even if the battery tests good you could get the clicking symptom from poor connections or a bad battery cable. May want to try to check there first.
