Transmission Pan Leak

So while I was under the truck changing the oil tonight I noticed that my transmission is leaking. I had seen this a few months back but it was only the dipstick plug at the time. Now it looks like it is the entire pan seal. From the seal point up its clean. No fluid, and rear seal is clean as well. However my front driveshaft is coated at the fron at rear of the transmission. Alo my tranny bolts have fluid on them as well. So I'm pretty sure that its only the pan seal. Truck will be going to dealer tommorow for backflush. Not screwing around with transmission issues. Fluid levels are correct. Transmission has approx 80k since last fluid change...assuming dealer didn't do it when i bought it. Has anyone else had issues with the pan seal leaking?

Normally I would agree with that theory, hwever fluid still looks good. Not dark brown, black, tranny runs fine. Do plenty of towing so I figure the new full synthetic will be worth it. Plus if things go to hell....the dealer did the work.... :D

Yeah not changing the DEXRON in 80-93k is a scary concept in my mind! Here are pics of mine after only 39k(changed at 30k and again at 69K)

DEXRON is supposed to be red! And look at all the crap in my transpan! I have never towed a thing nor had over 500 lbs in the bed of the truck!

So just got to the dealer. Shes going in to have a full backflush, and get the pan gasket replaced. 240$ + pan gasket+ tax = ~300$. Full synthetics. Figure the 300$ investment now will save a 2k grand investment in a new tranny later. The guy is gonna check the pan and let me know how things look. Wish I could get a pic so I could show everyone why you need to change the tranny fluid often. Especially on the early year trucks. 04, 05, 06. I'll post how things go. Now to hope that the "you should have left her alone" gnome doesn't strike.

Alright. All done. $296.78. 100$ in labor (2 hours) ,$83 in fluid, and $90 for the filter, gasket, and 2 new magnets. Got to talk with the tech and see both the filter and magnet. Talked with the tech. He said fluid was dark, but not burned. Just worn. Metal on the magnet, but he said the amount was well within normal. Some bronze on top of the filter, which he said is from my converter, but again to him the amount is normal. Overall he said the transmission looks to be in good shape. He went ahead and replaced the magnet, as well as adding an extra one in there. He said it will make sure that I dont have debris floating around in the fluid. Overall I'm pretty damn happy. To me only spending 100$ in labor, and not needing to fight with getting dirty, disposing fluid, crawling under the truck, and being able to surf the nation is worth it. I had already figured parts/supplies was going to be around 160$ anyways plus tax. Driving home it looks like i gained about another 6F drop. Oh and they loved my setup as well as Supermods Efan. Said it was a pretty nice piece of AM equipment. :) So if you guys are on the edge of whether or not to get fluid changed I would say do it. Especially 04, 05 that don't have the synthetic in them. For you guys I would definitely get the full backflush, and make them change filter, and pan gasket. Prolly the best investment you can make. Alright...back to work now. Back on the nation in a few hours.

So my pan is leaking too. Firestone said they wouldn';t replace the fluid, etc since it had not been done before.

What say the Nation?

SHould I change the fluid, filter, magnets, and gasket, or just leave alone. Bought it with 80,000 now has 84,000. Previous owner bought it new, and never changed it.

According to the parts breakdown it was 56$ for the filter kit. $15 for the magnets, $7 for brakekleen, and then 20$ for something tranny flush. To me the prices were reasonable. That was the 90$ cost. It wasnt just the filter.

My bad!

Guys, I'm a maintance nazi, I try to do my trans service every 30k or so. It all comes done to how you drive it and the conditions!

BUt at the sametime I cannot fathom going over 60k on any fluid in a vehicle.

Oh I had forgot to mention Jeremy. My fluid at 83k looked better than yours. WTF do you do to your truck... I think I've got to be harder on mine than you. K I lied on the breakdown

Oh...and I guess I actually have 86K now. Wasn't paying attention. And I would go ahead and have service done wagner. Better to do now before you blow the tranny later. Little upfront saves alot later.
