This is an oldie.Well since it's back up.Take this for what it's worth if worth anything.Iv'd owned black since the van days 1979.No fancy waxes, spray shit, leave on,don't leave on waxes,14 step processes. The only BARS we had were the ones we got thrown out of.The main 2 keys to black are TEMPERATURE and final CLOTH you use.Always clean in shade, always soak and rinse before you touch with pad or micro.RINCE each panel.2 buckets always clean before you add more soap.Wipe dry vehicle when wet.Never wipe dry a partial wet panel.Black is a PIA color not for the lazy. But one of the best gleaming.IMOP HA HA

The first step when dealing with swirls is preventing them. Proper wash technique is critical. Remember, anytime you contact your paint, you stand the chance of swirling it.

Few basic techniques/tools:

Wash your vehicle in a cool, dry place, out of the sun. This prevents the water/soap from evaporating prematurely.

Use quality soap. Make sure the soap is pH7 (nuetral) so it does not damage the paint. I know Adam's Car Wash Shampoo is pH7. It is by far the best car wash I've used.

Use a two bucket wash system with Grit Guards and quality wash pads. One bucket is for soap, the other to rinse. The GGs are a huge swirl-preventing tool.

Rinse the vehicle using the "pooling method." This will leave less water on the paint.

Use a leaf blower or MetroVac to dry the vehicle. The less contact with a drying towel, the better. If you do not have a blower, spray the car down with Detail Spray and dry using a waffled microfiber towel.

Once the vehicle is clean, you need to correct the scratches.

Perform the bag test to see if you need to clay the car. Stick your hand in a thin plastic bag and feel the paint. If you feel any impurities, you need to clay the car before polishing. Make sure to clay your glass as well!

Once clayed, an orbital polisher is the preferred way to remove the swirls. I use the Flex Polisher with Adam's line of polishes and pads. If the paint has a lot swirls, I use Adam's Severe Swirl Remover followed by Adam's Swirl & Haze Remover and I finish up with Adam's Fine Machine Polish. Other companies have other steps, but for me this works best.

Remember, wax does not remove swirls or add color to your paint. Your depth and shine come from polishing.
:yeahthat: This is the only way you will keep black paint looking good. I do the same steps, but with a Porter cable random orbital.

I've tried out all the major brand products and have been using Adam's for over 6 years now because his products are really easy to use and produce excellent results!

All of our vehicles are black and we needed the best product that doesn't take too long to use. We use so much product, I became a dealer.

If we can keep our '84 all black paint rig clean, the product works!

I use the Meguiar's Ultimate system, Ultimate Compound first after wash, Ultimate polish on top of that, and Ultimate wax to finish. Easy to use and leaves a deep shine. I have a dark green truck, so it shows swirls and water spots almost as bad as Black. The only thing you have to do with the Ultimate system, is small areas with the polish. It is not supposed to dry at all, wipe it on a 2x2 ft area and wipe it off. The compound will take the water spots and minor blemishes off pretty well. If I have a stubborn blemish, I use 3M Rubbing Compound for clear coats, gets most anything but bad scratches. I do not use a buffer, as I have no experience with one, and I am not going to experiment on my baby! Usually add a coat of The Wax Shop Super Glaze each month between thorough paint detailing. But' it is getting hard to find, so might just start using the wax each month. My truck is six years old and the paint still gleams.

I use the Turtle Wax ICE line of products. They have a claybar kit, a good soap, and paste or liquid wax whichever you prefer. Mothers has a few waxes for black vehicles which work awesome as well.

I also was at a swap meet once and saw a vendor for a company called ARDEX and they have a polish which was designed for black vehicles and to remove the swirls and it works very well. You wash, then apply the Ardex product like a liquid wax, then wax as you normally would.
