Well, I dun did fucked up.

Was driving home from school for winter break in this shitty storm, and I hit black ice going up hill around a curve. I failed to correct the vehicle and save it. I slide sideways into a ditch, caught the front end on a hill. Got flipped around 180* from my original direction and flipped the truck on its side on the hill to fall back onto four wheels.

The Bad:
Totally fucked the drivers side of the truck (cosmetically)
Impact managed to rip open my tonneau cover and throw some of my stuff and my riders desktop computer out into the snow.
Destroyed the rest of the plastic on the front bumper
Driver's door no longer works

The Good:
No power train/drivetrain/suspension damage. It was all cosmetic (thus far)
I can still drive the vehicle and drove it right out of the ditch and continued all the way to St. Ignace from Champion (where I wrecked)
Bullmaxx took a good chunk of the hit, and has no visible damage at all and probably saved my front end (if not more...).
No ticket
No physical injuries

Now onto the pics... (May upload more later)

Thanks guys

No kidding, as soon as it happened, I was like aw shit, I'm now a statistic.

Shit dude! That's horrendous to flip on the side, and drive away! Is your next thread going to be "The day my truck was a stunt double for the General Lee"

Glad you were able to drive away (not because the truck was working).

Hope you feel well tomorrow dude!
:lmaop: that's great. Yeah I was happy I was able to drive away from it. Hopefully the roads clear up better by tomorrow.

More pics added to OP

Thanks, I was more worried about my rider than myself. First time I had a rider with me for that trip, my luck...

It is a tough little truck, I was impressed. I was sure I fucked up the front end under the chassis.

Thanks. yeah it would be time for SAS if I would have screwed up the suspension and drivetrain. but I got to fix the body only instead (fortunately, so I can still drive home)

This is a good reminder for all of us-pay attention more often.

I'm heading over the mountain pass tomorrow for Tahoe. I'll be driving through the storm that is here today. The mountains are getting dumped on right now. The highway is closed due to snow (because it's mountain highway and it's easier to close than to let dumbasses drive, not directed at you Wh1pple). Around here, people think they are indestructible while climbing from 500 up to 5,000ft on snow covered roads. Curves and mountains are different than flat and they forget that.

No offense taken man. It'll serve as a good lesson for all, and I'm satisfied if just one person takes something away from this.

I gave up my pursuit of making it home tonight. I got a hotel at the bridge (They are running escorts only last I heard, maybe even closed it down since then) and decided to wait until things calm down and it's light out. I just hope it doesn't get too icy downstate when I leave. I couldn't handle driving in that shit anymore for the night.. I learned my lesson.

So true... When I felt the truck twist in the air, I expected the worst... When I saw how "well" I came out, I was extremely surprised. Someone was looking out for me today.

That reminds me of a few years back. I was in a VW Beetle coming back to CA from Oregon. It was lightly raining/snowing when we stopped to eat. When we finished eating it was dark and the temps dropped a few degrees. At dark, temps at or below freezing and high elevation you never know what to expect. It was a slightly tense driving situation.

Glad to hear you called it a night. A little bit of relaxation will do you good. You were most likely running on adrenaline from earlier.

Take it easy.......rest up. Hopefully you don't have any whiplash or anything else.

EDIT: nice quote. ha!

Yeah, I think I was. My body was tensed up for the remainder of my drive. I had to pull off just about every chance I got to temporarily unwind. I needed to rest more than I would have ever realized. Chances are I would have stopped (or crashed) somewhere south of the bridge anyways from the tension in my body. My rider kinda wanted to keep going, and so did I, but it was in the best interest for the both of us to stop. A $62 room is cheaper than being dead or in a hospital.

Will do, thanks.

That sucks man, I've already had my share of damage to my truck so even though I like hot rodding around, I drive like a grandma now when the roads are slick :lol2: at least you were able to drive out and drives fine and you are ok, that's the important part

Thanks guys. I was truly impressed with how the truck handled it as well. All the heavy metal damage on the side was where there were rocks on the side of the hill, and that's what the side of the truck landed on.

I drive like a grandma now when the roads are slick :lol2:
Exactly what I felt like driving the rest of the way across the U.P. :lmao:

now look at it this way u have to dukes of hazard it gitting in and out and off road rash is no longer a problem
I tried that, it's fucking hard w/ a lifted truck and white boy hops. :lmaop:

Bet it was a hell of a ride.
Yeah it was. To look out my driver's window and see the ground parallel to it was quite the sight. One I'd prefer not to happen again at 50mph and no roll cage...

I know exactly where that is. Really miss Michigan, especially the northern parts. Do not miss the black ice, though, shit is scary.
Yeah, it's definitely a common place for spin outs. I was finding chunks of other vehicles along with mine. I guess it makes me "feel better" that I'm not the only person to ever wreck there, granted, I should have never let it happen in the first place.

Yeah, glad you're ok man. Glad your truck is "ok" too. It definately could have been a lot worse. It's awesome you were able to just jump in and drive off.

You're a lucky man.

Glad you came through OK, hope the rest of the trip is uneventful.
