Cargo Light Override?

Hi guys,

For the longest time I thought the cargo light was broken... I only discovered just the other day that it works fine, it just has silly settings like the light won't come on unless the key is out, etc.

Is there any way to override this so that it simply goes on and off whenever I hit the switch? I often have the dogs in the bed and the light would be nice for when I'm doing a quick check on them.

Not a big issue, but it would be a dandy little feature for me.

Its not that the key was out but that the dome light was on. There's been much talk and quite possibly diode is all that is needed to provide power to the cargo circuit.

Thought the same thing. Very annoying. Not an electrical guy. So how would a diode help solve this problem.

curious to find out how to change this also as I would like to be able to turn on the cargo light without turning on the dome light....

So this is all guesswork but it looks like it's controlled by the BCM, which probably can't be reprogrammed.

So I'm guessing the Diode would be to trick the BCM into thinking the dome light is always on? Would that be possible without screwing with the dome light operation though?

I took out the bulb in the Dome Light for the very same reason, to check on the Pooch.

Very few ppl have opened that switch box but it may be possible to add a diode from the dome switch out even constant power to the cargo light and cut the run on the circuit board.

Just locate the wire coming from the cargo lamp, and re-connect it directly to the pushbutton.

Haven't looked recently at the schematic, it may be necessary to reconnect the other side of the pushbutton to a +12 volt source.

The way the circuit world it seems that the cargo light uses the 12v service from the some light to power the cargo light. Imo jump a diode from the hot pin of the dome light to the input of the cargo light this way the cargo light will turn on without back feeding the domes

Or just cut the connection between the two circuits, then jump from a RAP (retained accessory power) source to the cargo lamp switch.

My reasoning for using the diode is so that the cargo light receives power from where it would normally

By using the rap terminal the use of the cargo circuit would be only operational with the key forward. being that i don't have my truck available would someone want to try this out?

Why not just get a switch off of a new truck? I want it to come on when I unlock it and open the door. So couldent I just plug in a newer model switch and it work? Or no
