So my question is for the mudders. How do you clean your muddy dusty engine bays after a weekend on the trail? Do you just hose it down?

I go to the local DIY car wash place, cover my fuse box and alternator in saran wrap and then go to town. I will then use a wet rag to wipe the alternator and fuse box and call it good.

Why saran wrap on the alternator/fusebox? Shortly after buying my truck, I washed the engine bay and when I got into the truck, it wouldn't start and was stuck there for over an hour. I think I may have gotten water in one of them and needed to dry, because since using saran wrap, I haven't had the issue.

I just take it to the car wash. Instead of covering the alternator/fuse box I usually just leave it running. Don't spray full pressure directly at the alt/fuse box or any other electrical and I usually keep the nozzle a couple feet away so I don't force water into anything. I've never had an issue.

I power wash mine too the engine bay and the undercarriage but I like to let mine cool as much as possible first... To me the cold water hitting the hot as hell engine block could cause it to crack.. Maybe it doesn't but you never know. Run really hot water over a glass for a few minutes then dump ice cold water on it and it will shatter.. I know metal and glass are not the same but idk..

I get the hot engine cold water theory. But do you cover your fuse box or anything. I am worried that the high water pressure or the shear volume of water will cause some electrical problems. Don know if it matters but I have an 07 Colorado z85 4x4 power windows mirrors but no sunroof and I have HID highs and lows

Easy rinse with the hose to get the big mud off then soak with simple green let it sit for a few min then wipe with a wet rag and rinse , and if I really want to make it look new I mist everything once it's dry with tire shine and wipe down I do this to the frame and everything under the truck also at east once or twice a year
