So lately ive been leaning towards getting a console shifter like a b&m. But my problem is i just dont have anywhere to put it. Well i used my class time wisely and drew up an idea of what i would like to have. Id like to make it out of diamond plate but my tig skills arent good enough so sheet will have to do. Tell me what you think so far.

Since you´re trying to build your custom console I assume you don´t want any stock console from other cars, but what about this:

There are many manufacturers that offers custom consoles professionally finished. Wood, MDF, Poly-carbon, and others.

This reminds me of the spanish inner-city lowered S10's.

wicked tacky.

I like his idea... and the flush mount CB spot !!!!!!

Keep in mind here guys this is a toy truck meant for the dunes. Im essentially going for a 4wd trophy truck look. All i care about is it being rugged and its main purpose is to conceal the roll cage tubes and hide some wiring. I also want all my light/accessory switches close together and get my cb out from under my dash. This is definitely not a show truck haha

I think i finally got it sized just right to fit under the console, but it still need a little trimming. Also added cupholders,a cubby, and a place where i want the shifter. Im thinking diamond plate would look pretty cool

maybe he doesnt need to slide the seat forward anymore

The seats almost all the way forward in the picture,I moved it up to make sure it would clear. The only problem with diamond plate is my inability to tig weld haha. I'd have to have someone do it unless I could get one of the techs at school to do it

If you cut up all the pieces and send it my way, I'd love to tig it up for you. Is it stainless or Mild steel??
Just need some $ for welding gas and filler wire - Donations for ya fellow 355 members!

I can Mig it and make it look just like Tig. Or Tig the whole get-up and ship it back in a big 'ol box haha.

I used to be an Xray qualified welder for Nuclear Submarines. Classified info, but somewhere in new england :)

PM me if you're interested.
I have a plasma cutter too that could make things easier if you made the templates and sent the steel sheets... but now that's more time blah blah blah.

I think it'll look Bad A$$

I was leaning towards plasma cutting. I still have more trimming to do so it fits nice and snug. The mock up isn't exactly perfect (cardboard flexes) so I need to put a little time into it. Mig is no problem for me,my skills are beaut with that process lol. I was also seeing if my school could use the the shape cutter or water table to cut it all out

Those are to fancy for my standards haha. Find out today about my tax return so hopefully I can start making progress on this project. I don't feel like dropping $100 into a console at the moment. Just something to think about,if I'm running a console shifter I'm not going to want the column shifter anymore. How hard are they to remove?

I went to the yard today and robbed a '95 firebird shifter. The only problem i need to work out is that the gears dont line up. Its for a 4L60E and park works fine, however when you go into the reverse notch it doesnt engage all the way and every gear under drive is off by 2 notches. So 1st gear on the shifter is 3rd with the tranny. Any suggestions on a fix? I thought maybe my spacers werent long enough but even with an extra 1/2" they all line up except it stops in 2nd and wont go all the way back into park. Maybe an adjustment of where the linkage attaches to the shifter or maybe i should rob the linkage to the firebird trans? And yes i know its rigged for the time being as a proof of concept, I will make nice brackets for it to mount to and solve the gear changing problem
