Any good or bad feelings to share ??? ....

Difference is that I'll never take my truck offroading at triple digit speeds with the stock suspension. But I can guarantee that my truck can go so many places it can't only because its not as wide. I can also avoid scratches while the raptor will look like it got tangled in a barb wire fence.

I think the raptor is a pretty decent truck. There are a ton of them up here in Fort McMurray (Alberta, Canada) but they sell for way more than down in the US. I'd consider buying one at the US price for sure. I don't think there is much of a comparison between the Raptor and the canyon/rado though.

Many people think Raptors are trial rated just because of the 4wd. Incorrect. These beasts were designed having the desert in mind.

I also think nothing beats a stock truck being able to be taken off road, a little hard (not at triple digit speeds), and taken back to civilization everything covered under factory warranty.

There's also a lot of electronics involved in the design: hill descent control, off road mode, etc.

Which is kinda my point. Raptor owners are usually cocky pricks that cajoled mommy and daddy into buying them a raptor. Thinking that "its a prerunner out of the box" which we all know is not. I know the limitations of my truck but for him to break the three weakest links of the truck on one trail and me in 2wd beating on it to get up some of those hills with not even desert pinstriping.

Driver skill has a ton to do with is but you take a built v8 colly and a built raptor id wager on the colly but it would be close.

I just have a 2wd Z71 lifted 4" with intake , 2nd cat delete , and Super 44 flowmaster dumping before the axle .

I had a Raptor roll up on my but on the local toll rd turn getting off/onto hwy 59 south He was so close I was shocked I didn't feel him on my hitch . I was a bit upset about the close quarters so I punched my little I 5 , and flat left him in mid corner . I watched him in my rear view mirror , and he got on it , but was not catching me . @ 95 mph I shut it down and was a good 100 yards ahead of him .

Raptor 6113 pounds / 411 hp = 14.87 pounds per hp

2wd Z71 extend cab I 5

3649 pounds / 242 hp = 15.07 pounds per hp

Now my truck being about 75 pounds lighter than stock , and about 15 more hp than stock gives me a 13.9 pounds per hp .

All that said with me punching it before him it was a easy win .
At the strip it would be a close race .

^^^yep just like I said, when its about drag racing all its a weight/ power ratio matter.

I Just have a question, I might be wrong or right, don´t know.

any "external" mod to the engine will only help by reducing restrictions to the motor, but not adding a damn hp. for example

A stock I5 vortec engine is rated at 242 on the spec sheet, but if you take it to the dyno it will barely reach the 190hp´s. this because the intake / exhaust restrictions that wasn´t not present on the testing at motor plant, or were performed in a different altitude.

By placing an intake and some performance exhaust you "liberate" your engine from those restrictions, then those 190hps at the dyno could be closer to the 242 hps on the spec sheet, but ain´t not gonna be 15hps more like 257...

any input from the engine gurus here????

Well that may need to be reserved for another thread but ill play; fact remains any "gain" in hp tq or mpg is a win in my book. The way my truck is set up I get 17mpg mixed driving constantly but can still pick a tire off the ground on a on ramp to the freeway. Imo the only time you "add power" to a motor is either with nitrous or forced induction.

Stepping back to the argument at hand, it comes down to the terms of the "race". Is it short course track? Prob close tie, is it a drag race? Prob will go to the v8 355. Or a offroad trail flat out with whoops? Maybe slight advantage to the raptor. There are too many variables and the terms are endless. Even stock for stock will varry based on terrain

I'd line up my extcab V8 Colorado with any stock Raptor. A number of sports cars have a hard time keeping up with me from 0-50. The power to weight of the V8 ext cab is ridiculous.

The skyjacker lift made the truck faster too, with the stiff shocks and new rear springs, there's almost no squat on punch...

On flat off road (no whoops) I think the ext V8 with the skyjacker would beat the raptor too. As soon as you put any whoop-de-doos or jumps in the mix and the Raptor is running a away quick

242 is simply the hp @ crank same for the Raptor @ 411 hp Now I'm now car dyno expert , but having run hundreds of dyno's for many motorcycle engines I have built over the years we look @ the rear wheel #

For example a 1999 ZX11D was advertised @ 160 crank hp @ the rear wheel on mine 137.5 hp
and 79 tq

I plugged in the 242/411 as easy math numbers since for the power to weight ratio .

Adding a free flowing exhaust with extra fuel will net more power .

Example 2001 to 2005 Kawasaki ZRX1200R stock hp 113 to the wheel . After full pipe ( system ) AND a jet kit they range from 125 to 133 hp at the wheel depending on the exhaust system design .

A engine is simply a air pump the more you can take in / let out the better it will perform .
However if you dont add fuel the mixture becomes to lean . 14.1 to .5 is typical good fuel economy start running 13.5 and you pick up power . Turbos , and Nitrous oxide applications
like it in the 12.'s That is pretty rich , and your not getting great mpg's :D
