I wish they had something for the 3.5 :ugh: Maybe I need a V8

I know everyone that has installed their Trailblazer SS cover is proud of it and justifiably so, however for those of us with GMC’s, the SS emblem does somewhat seem out of place. In the short time I’ve had it installed, in every case I’ve had the person ogling at it ask why it say’s SS. Of course it’s not a Holden either, but at least the junior crowd has no idea as to what that emblem is and just think it’s cool having a V8 in a mid-size truck and doesn’t really think much about it, not knowing it didn’t come that way. That and at least there is a Holden version of our trucks so to speak with the Rodeo.

What does the 355 crowd think?

That's kinda cool, how did you do that? A Lion?

Yes it’s a lion. I measured the SS emblem and just started searching for what I thought might be a cool replacement. I originally was looking at the steering wheel emblem from a GMC Envoy, but the only way I could find one from my chair was attached to the air-bag and as such was what I felt was too expensive for just a GMC emblem. The Holden emblem I used was also originally to be a steering wheel emblem and while it worked out alright, it was a little smaller in diameter than what was listed, but the original chrome outline of the SS emblem encircles it perfectly. Also, while the new emblem came with an adhesive backing for installation, the emblem is curved for installation on a steering wheel, so I epoxy’d it to assure it wouldn’t come off.

So the loin is a Holden emblem? Looks pretty good!

First I preped the stripes with a scotchbrite pad. (to give the paint something to bite)
Then I wiped down with area to be painted with some denatured alcohol. (to remove any greese or oils)
Next I taped off the strips with painters tape.
Next I sprayed down two coats of primer.
After a light sanding I followed up with two coats of color.
Finally, I topped it off with a couple of coats of clear.

Prep work is the key area to focus on. Some adhesion promoter is also a good idea when painting plastic.

bought some off of ebay. they are for the center of the chevy cruze rims.

AWESOME MOD!

I got my cover off of the TBSS forums, hardware was new from my local dealer, and the decal I had custom made (actually had to have 4 made-I have extras PM me if interested)

I was able to do everything for under $100

It's not out of place. There were some GMC factory built SS trucks. The GMC Sprint the El Camino's counterpart was available with a SS package around '69 to '72. I read that in 1970, 7 of GMC Sprint SS trucks got the famous LS-6 454, making 450 HP! Rock the SS badge with pride.

Thanks for the detailed How To with diagrams. I'm going to use some of the mounting bolts for a different application and was able to find the bolt thread specs. I was just getting ready to create a new post, but M6-1-16 here I come!

What part numbers did you get to make it $100? Might be interested in doing the same!

exactly what rshadd had posted above. ordered right from the dealership was 108 something with tax included.

I did not need any of the gromets that get installed into the cover as they came installed along with the gm performance plaque on the top of it which is like 25 dollars alone. all i needed were the two bolts, the cover itself, the hinge held in by said two bolts, and one post in the front. the rest im going to try and return so it will actually cost less if i get money back.
