Torque converter issue?

So here lately I've noticed how driving to work.. the same route I've taken for 5 years now, the truck seems to bog down more than usual. I noticed this starting about a month back. I just thought it was because it's getting colder outside. But after reading some of the TC thread I'm starting to think maybe it's my lockup solenoid.

Symptom: Driving at 70 with cruise control on up a slight incline which used to not bog her down, now does noticeably. If I pop out of Cruise and apply a little more pedal the bogged engine noise get's louder, RPM's stay the same and speed ever so slightly increases.
If I let off the pedal then apply the same amount as before except this time in a much faster fashion it will upshift, RPM's jumping close to 3k (depending on incline).

I honestly cannot tell if the TC is locking up or not but from the description from a co-worker in applying more gas the TC should unlock, RPM's jump some, but no downshift which is not what's happening here.

I did search and found a PCM/VCM flash update:

12627883-New software with driveability and fuel economy improvements achieved by decreasing the time TCC will be unlocked due to a misfire rough road event.

Since it mentioned TCC I'm assuming that I should probably do it anyway (awaiting dealer response to price request)

But could there be something else amiss here? There are no codes being generated, the trucks got 77k miles and the last fluid change involving the tranny was at 65K miles. Oh and I've also got the 'corvette' 1-2, 2-3 servos installed.

Interesting. My torque converter has been unlocking on its own for like 5 years and GM just kept telling me that it was normal. I am going to see if I can get this PCM update.

My torque converter unlocks on its own sometimes too but i've noticed that when it does unlock its always in the same place where its happened before, I figure mine has something with the road conditions or something because only in those certain places it will do it and it wont unlock every single time I go through that same stretch of road

My TC is unlocking too quick. Dealer downloaded this update month ago and it did not change a thing, other than losing MPG. Dealer will tell u the update might and might not change anything.

Ive never got a CEL.

I had the upgrade performed this morning. I will know tonight on my drive home if it worked.

CRASH - mine was the same, always in the same spot because of the cracks / bumps at that particular portion of road.

*fingers crossed, rabbits foot, 4-leaf clover, knock on wood*

I made it all the way home (50km) and even took the route i used to avoid because of repeated unlocks and not a single time did this happen. In a typical trip between home and work I would typicall have no less than 3 events of it unlocking. hopefully after 5.5 years - my truck problems are resolved.

Been watching this, and here is my two cents, my TC unlocks and it jumps up 1200 rpms when it does, and another 1000 if it downshifts. Depending on how cold it is outside, and we do not get very cold very often down here, it will do it sooner or later on the same stretch of road. I might suggest you guys to see when the last time your trans was serviced, and how many miles ago it was. I also would suggest that you check for other things "bogging" down your motor, which could effect all of the situations you talk about. This is just IMO, so just a suggestion.

My truck has 44,000 miles just serviced the trans and filter 11 quarts of the good stuff not just a filter job, its just weird that on my way into work it wont downshift once! Then on the way home (22miles) it down shifts on tiny hills and incline 8-15 times?! It sure seems to be the same grade on the way in? Only difference i see is its dark outside and 50 degrees instead of 75? Idk fuck....

Lol...my truck was doing this for about 6 months prior to my CAT burn up. Since then, all of my mysterious issues have gone away. At 115k the truck is running better than it did at 80K.

Cat burn up, thats interesting....i did the manifold cat gut and it helped but did not cure it, Arizona emissions are a little tuff but i could try cutting it out and put it back in for emisssions in 2 years : ) i am headed to the GM dealership in the AM to get the update...i sure hope it works...i am going to lose my pcmforless tune...sadface : ( ...sounds like a good reason for a proper dyno no more mail in crap

What gears and what size tires you running MOZ? 1800 at 60? Sounds like something is amiss there. With 31-10.50's and 3:42's I turn about 1600 at 60, 2000 is not until like 75. I also took mine out and down the highway earlier when I went to the Wally World, and the jumps are not as big as I thought, it jumps about 800 when it unlocks to 2600, then jumps 500 more, when it shiftsdown to 3rd, to 3100. May have something to do with my gears being 3.42's but I really do not know.

I'm running 4.10s and 31's. At 65 I'm sitting at around 2100. Dropping to third jumps me to 3200.
