Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

I took to truck to J G Transmissions today and had the servos install.

I've been really curious to see how the new servos were going feel ever since I got them last week. Today was the day to get it done.

Image

The exhaust manifold on the passenger side with the V8 makes this install a bit more complicated than with the I5. It's a tight squeeze to get them out. We had to temporarily remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold, and even after that it was tight.

We got it out without having to lower the transmission or unbolt the exhaust so it wasn't too bad.

This is the original GM servo on the workbench after it was removed.

Jimmy, the owner of the shop and his son Justin. Jimmy was teaching Justin how to do the install properly. They let me listen and observe to process.

It was very cool of them to allow me into their shop to watch and take pics (I always ask first). Jimmy is a wealth of knowledge and answered all my questions about the transmission, shift kits, servos, and the L465E upgrade. He agreed that these servos are all that's necessary until you start adding some serious horsepower.

So how does it feel???

It feels fucking AWSOME!!!. The shifts are nice and firm. Not harsh at all when you're driving around normally. I was concerned that it was going to feel jerky and get annoying, but it's not like that at all. It feels REALLY nice.

But wait.. The best part is when you get on it. Man, this bitch really barks now. It's a different animal from what I went in with. I can now break the rear tire loose effortlessly on the 1-2 shift (even with traction control on) and I suspect that a 2-3 "chirp is possible with a bit more practice. At a slow roll, if I punch it, it'll downshift hard and break the tire loose, instantly putting a huge grin on my face.

If you've got the factory 5.3L in your truck this should be on the top of your list. These servos really woke up the beast in my truck.

Highly recommended. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Installed Clear Reflectors today...

Removed the grill shell and headlights..

The DRL's were a piece of cake and came apart very easy after baking for 20mins at 170 degrees.

I tried and tried to get the headlight done also but I couldn't for the life of me get them to separate. I finally said "fuck it" gave up on the headlights.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

It's usually the other way around. Most had trouble with separating the DRL lens and had an easy time with the headlights.

Looks good!

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

I find these black plastic pieces to each side of the radiator interesting; I don't have them on my 04.

Hmm.....
