Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Do you have a part number for those Bilsteins? I have thought about the QA1's but now from doing some reading I don't know if I want them.
I'm not sure if they make one that's the proper size for our trucks, I was mentioning it's worth looking into. Just call bilstein directly and tell them what you're looking for and have the dimensions of the qa1's handy. They are a great company to deal with, and very helpful.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

This is what I put on my truck.
Bilstein
CHEVROLET(BE5-D973-H0) (FRONT RIGHT&LEFT)

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Replaced the GM shock insulators yesterday and switched to the QA1 top stud conversion kit (#SS110SDM) kit.

The SS110SDM is about and inch shorter, but what really mattered was that the thread extend fruther down the shaft, there by allow you to tighten them up properally without a stack of washers.

Image

I picked up the GM insulators mainly because I wanted to have them on hand in case there was some heavy wear (which there wasn't).

What we discovered was a little bit of wiggle in the top stud kit. The play in turn wore out the bushings and the shaft of the top stud kit was rubbing on the top insulator. The new top stud kit that I used fits better and we were able to get 'em tight and still have threads left on the shaft.

Worn bushings...

Notice how the shart has shifted...

Here you can see where the shaft was rubbin'...

Notice how the bottom thread are screwed up for over tightening and lack of threads.

A couple of other things we did was to grind down the bump a bit more to gain some clearance with the QA1 springs.

Hat's off to 05blackcolly (Lee) and thethein (Billy) for comin' over and giving me a hand with the install. Well... truth be told I really didn't do much at all..

The ride in to the office this morning was squeak free. Hope it lasts.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Was real cool watching billy and lee do that lol. billy knew his shit about all the stuff. i could totally understand how the new parts are a better fit anyway.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Finally install HID's in my truck too. These have been sitting in a cabinet for almost three years now.
Figured it was about time to install them on the truck.

It's a kit 35w 6000k kit from VVME... Designed in Germany (but made in China).

Actually Ripp (Joe) did most of the work.

We discovered that one of the ballasts was bad so we only installed the lows.

They're pretty damn brite and the color is just right.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Had the truck in to the shop this afternoon in order to have the remote starter re-programmed.

It would remote start OK, then run for about 5-10 seconds and shut off. It'd repeat this process 5 times and then set off the alarm.

The tech hooked up a scan tool up to the remote port on the remote starter's antenna, pushed a button and it was fixed.

Need to take it back in on Thursday for another issue that's been bugging me...

After a remote start, it behaves like the door is left open. i.e. "doors" flashing in the DIC and the dome light stays on. Turning the truck off/on fixes that, but it's kinda of annoying.

Tech said he'd fix it, if I'd leave it for the day. This remote start has been real struggle to get working correctly.

Here the current setup...

It's was necessary to install relays in conjuction with the bypass module in order to make it work.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Tech just brought my truck back from the shop. There's was a firmware update that resolved the issue.

Cool thing is.. the newer firwmare now supports the Compustar Drone phone interface.

He was showing me the iphone app, and it's pretty cool. It allows you lock/unlock, start/stop, see it the alarm is set, get the voltage, inside temp, etc all from your phone. A premium verison also allows for tracking. With tracking enabled, a map view shows where you are (phone) and where the truck is at, so if you forgot where you parked it, it can take right to your truck.

Very cool, but it's like $300 and an annual $40/yr subscription for the basic service or $120/yr for the premium service.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

truck looks great, as always. they have an app like that for OnStar, on Andriod phones, but its for like 2010 or 2011 and newer cars and trucks, and only a few of those...

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

i've used mine a few times, tow from deep inside a OHV park and unlocking the doors. i keep it for the peace of mind, since i almost always have the family in it with me.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

I paid a visit to Supermodulation's place and converted my tail lamps to LED's yesterday.

Some before shots..

Here's some pics of the new bulb assemblies...

Once they were installed we noticed that there was a feedback issue when the turn signals were on. The feedback caused the opposite side bulbs to flash dimly. James resolved that by isolating each bulb with a diode. He also applied a very small drop of superglue in the corner of each bulb socket to help hold them in place since they're heavier than the stock bulbs.

The LED's were made and installed by Supermodulation.

Here are some shots of the bulbs at night...

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

We also tried the new Supermodulation SDLR conversion kit on my truck.

Image

It kept blowing the small 10amp DRL fuse when the HID's fired. James said he'd update the design to include a smart circuit in the fuse holder to resolve that issue and make it a universals kit that will work on all year trucks.
