RSHADD's Build Journal

Considering it was a rainy Monday morning, my day started out OK....
Image

Then things went bad. As I'm backing into my spot at work, It felt like I ran over a small rock or something.
Image

But then I hear... psssst and the low tire pressure light comes on. :ugh:
Image

This is the shrapnel that I pulled out of the tire. Worst part is that my spare tire and tools are 40 minutes away in my garage.
Image

Luckily my buddy was around and brought me my spare and some tools.

I quick trip to the tire store for a plug and I was back in business.

I'll have to re-think the notion of not carrying a spare tire and tools.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

I had the truck back in the shop again today. Today's goal was to attempt to get the truck to sit level.

Ever since I brought the truck it has had the chevy lean issue. You know, the problem where it sits an inch lower on the drivers side. We loosened the rear shackles, jostled her some, and still couldn't get her to sit level. Next, we adjusted the passenger side coilovers an inch lower. That gets me close, but I'm starting to suspect that I may have a bad rear leaf spring.

With the rear shackles loose and the truck on the ground, the driver side rear leaf spring is almost flat, while the passenger side still has some arch to it.

I need to get the GM dealer to look at this and perhaps have the rear springs replaced under warrenty.

While it was on the lift, I replaced the u-bolts. The original set that Mike sent me weren't quite long enough. The rule is that the bolt sould extend from the nut by atleast the diameter of the bolt. Mike at JTR, sent me the replacements for free.

Finally while is was up on the lift, I noticed that I've been scraping the frame bracket that supports the transmission shifter cable.

To resolve this, we cut the portion of the bracket that hangs below the frame rails with the sawzall.

Then we fabricated a new bracket to support the transmission shift cable.

Works well.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

It leans even when the gas tank is empty. I'm 28" on the driver side and 28.5" on the passenger side after adjusting the passenger side coilover down an inch. It's better but it's still not perfect and my goal is perfection.
I was guessing that the weight of a full gas tank flattened out the leaf over time and thats why its not as arched. Once it flattens out it wont spring back. You should see my bell tech leafs they almost look like the arch reversed a little or there completely flat.

If all else fails you could have a machine shop remove .5 off the drivers side block and then it would sit level.

X2

Driver and fuel weight will wear the left leaf spring down faster. I have heard of others swapping the leafs from one side to the other and getting them to even out. But, the leafs for these trucks suck anyways. Mine are "s" shaped because of the helper bags. I plan on seeing if a local spring company can make new leafs for my truck that are capable of higher loads.

Everything looks awesome Rich!

I'm wondering one thing though, does your exhaust rattle any? Those mufflers seem awful close to each other...could be the picture though.
Thanks Chris. The pipes are braced nicely to avoid any rattles.

Picked up an EZ-Down kit this week.

I fell in love with this mod ever since I saw it on Supermodulation's truck.

James is gonna let me borrow his custom-made lower tailgate bracket so that I can have a new bracket fabricated. Once the new bracket in done, I'll have it all powder coated. Picking up the James' bracket tomorrow.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Bad ass rich, can't wait to see your truck.

Re: RSHADD's Build Journal

Very nice looking man.

Just curious, James did your bed LEDs, right? I've been wanting the same setup for my truck, even spoke with him on the phone about them probably 8 months ago or so. How much did that setup run you? Thanks!
