about 2 years ago, i painted my wheels with graphite duplicolor wheel paint. i used 2 coats of paint and a heavy clear coat. today, i had the truck washed and they sprayed a smionize product on my wheels and tires. after the truck came through the other end, the paint was streaking off. i have been to other carwashes without a problem. i'm not sure if i should try to paint them again this weekend, or wait till the spring with warmer weather. any tips on how i can make the paint adhere better the next time around?

i think 2 years was pretty darn good out of a rattle can though man. i'd just repeat the same process but add a coat to the paint and clear. 3 coats of paint and a little heavier clear coat.

and brewer is right, sandblasting does wonders. takes off that smooth surface wayy easier than hand sanding it, it gets annoying.

the carwash place claims that since its not factory, they aren't liable. this was the first time i went to this location but i usually goto a place thats run by the same company without any problems. i had a little chat with the owner of the place and he's giving me a coupon book for the value of the replacement paint. i was actually planning on redoing the paint next april when it got a bit warmer, but i guess i'll have to get cracking on it now.

Take them to your friendly neighborhood powder coater!

BTW - If you take them to a blast shop DON'T let them use sand on your aluminum rims or you'll have a hell of a time getting them to shine again. Sand is too abrasive and they will end up looking like the surface of a grinding wheel. They should use glass bead, wallnut shell, aluminum oxide, etc... much less abrasive but will still give the metal a good profile for making the paint stick.

I had the same problem Dan, I was wondering why my spray on Dupli-color clear coat came off all at once on my four wheels. Then I noticed white specs all over my Bak flip and other plastic surfaces. The local car wash was hand spraying on some kind of tar removable solution. I had a few words with the owner but he didn't give a fuck.
Any ways I plan on powder coating mine. I have the powder coating kit, I just need an oven to bake them.
