Front Bumper: Air bag impact sensors?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on fabbing up a custom front bumper for my 07 Colorado... I haven't quite got around to tearing everything apart as of yet, but before I do... where abouts are the front air bag impact sensors located on this thing? I don't want to bite off more than I can chew, and if doing a custom bumper requires removing and re-locating these sensors then I will stop while I'm ahead.

Any advice?

Cheers

are the sensors impact (getting crushed) or g-shock triggered?

I would guess.... Impact...But...????

I've always wondered that. like even with my BullMaxx, if I hit something, does it pop or do I eat steering wheel?

GM sensors are inertia sensors not impact sensors. The air bag will inflate only if the impact speed is above the system's designed "threshold level." If your truck goes straight into a wall that doesn't move or deform, the threshold level is about 14 to 18 mph (23 to 29 km/h). If you strike something that moves or deforms, such as a parked car, the threshold level will be higher. Inflation is determined by the angle of the impact and the vehicle's deceleration.

The air bag system is described in detail in your owner's manual.

so if I read that right, its shock, not crushed. good to know for those with aftermarket steel bumpers too
