Hard cold starts

Hi guys,
I have a quick question. I've noticed for the past month my Colorado has been starting differently in the mornings. I have a 2008 Colorado Reg. Cab with the 3.7 with 33,000 miles. Before, it would turn over and fire right up, and I'd hear the lovely chain guide rattle! Hehe. But for the past month, when I start it ONLY in the morning when cold, It will turn over two - three times and then literally stumble and act like its flooded, and then fire up and runs like it normally does. I did notice when I ran a bottle of redline fuel system cleaner through it, it got rid of the problem for two cold starts, but now I'm back to where its stumbling. Today I cleaned my K&N filter and I also cleaned my MAF sensor to see if that will help. Did I get a bad tank of gas? Or are my plugs/coils and wire on their way out? Please let me know what y'all think!

Hahaha I never thought about that! It's never been changed by me. I bought it with 16,000 miles on it 2 years ago and I'm am 99.9% sure the previous owner never did. Its only had oil changes and tire rotations. Is the filter located in the fuel tank? I'm fairly mechanically inclined but should I take it in to be checked out? I don't want to mess anything up.

Doesn't hurt to test your battery charge as well...low voltage can cause poor starting conditions.

Yea, I thought the fuel filter on the later 355s was not meant to need service, since it's located in the tank?

Personally, I'd say get that throttle body cleaned first before jacking with the fuel filter IMHO. I finally cleaned mine along with changing my air filter after 6 months or so during my oil change this weekend (and a bottle of Lucas fuel system treatment) and geeez, did it need it. SOOOO much smoother running now, the occasional cold "rattle" starts have disappeared too, haven't had one since!

Yea this was my mistake, sorry OP I have an 05 and I forget sometimes you newer guys have intank.:ugh:

Haha its all good man! I forgot I had read that our filters are in our tanks also. Quick update: I just checked my voltage on my battery (with my $10 multimeter from harbor freight :eek5:) So the reading may be off a tad. (One day I will buy a fluke!) Anyways, my colorado has been sitting for about 5 hours. According to my multimeter, while sitting my battery voltage is 12.5v holding steady, and when I started it, it bumped up to 14.8v and pretty much held steady between 14.7 and 14.8v So my battery and alternator seem ok. As of now, i'm assuming it has to either be my TB and/or wires and plugs. I know it only has 33,000 miles but it is a 8 year old truck and sat for about 1 year in a garage!

Sounds like the truck just needs a little maintenance for cleaning up the sensors and throttle body to be honest. Clean throttle body makes a world of difference for sure on the truck!

Also you want to check the voltage drop on the battery as well as the nominal voltage(resting). If you see the battery voltage dip below 9V you might want to start planning on changing the battery soon. If the battery has a lower cranking amp capacity from sitting the voltage will drop harder ergo a harder start
