sounds like there is not enough power going through the ceiling panel circuit

 

I have an LED dome light too. It always has stayed on at least dim when it's off. I think it's residual electricity in the circuit that isn't enough to light an Incandesent. Nothing to worry about, never drained my battery, so I dont worry about it :shrug:

 

How long have you had yours installed?

I bought mine Dec 09 and have been using it till now. So it's taken a year to finally do this. The rest of the year, it went off when it was supposed to.

 

Mine's done it since March 09. Did it as soon as I put it in. :shrug:

 

mine stays on all teh time in a dim state since it was installed.

GM feeds a small amount of voltage through their lighting circuits to monitor if the bulb is out, the voltage is too small for an incadescent bulb to show, but it will show up on LED bulbs.

When you say it "stays on", do you mean it's fully lit or just dim?

 

Stays on dim now. For a years time, it stayed completely off.

So why all of the sudden now?

i had the supermod mirror map lights, unplugged on the center console and the would light up whenever my phone was ringing :lmaop: it was funny as hell, wished i had a pic of it tho

 

I had James make me a gizmo that prevents the led dome light from being dim when off. Mine would blink with the turn signals also. Annoying at night. If sure Supermodulation can explain it better than me.

Mine does the same thing. It makes it easy to find the map light buttons when your driving at night.

 

As Chris stated, the BCM has a sensing circuit that samples the lamp if it is open or has a static load. LED's are sensitive since they are current driven not voltage. If your experiencing erratic illumination then I would be suspicious of either the BCM, door switches and even temperatures. To fix this problem I make a low cut off regulator. The regulator has a hysteresis of about 8 volts. That means anything less then 8 volts, the regulator completely turns off to zero.

 

I have a question for you; aren't these truck equipment with a power cutoff that shuts off all power in the vehicle after 20 mins of the ignition being turned off? So that way nothing drains the battery.

 

No offense but I would think a $50+ dome light would come with all that.

 

The real question is, why GM didn't fix it. The later vehicles are even more problematic. :shrug:

Okay, I just plugged it back in after a few days without out it and the leds are all off and it's functioning like normal. I wonder how long that will last.

Yes the switched power is off but not the "bulb condition" sensing circuit remains on.
