Well it's not nearly as bad as some of the guys that post in here but it was enough to hurt.

Was on my way to the bank for a loan when I came up on some steel plates in the road and I found one that was a little higher then all the rest. I came down of a set and the very next one had no protection or asphault around it and was all exposed. With the down force of the first set and being so low I took on the next one head on. After hitting it straight on my steering wheel was off big time so I knew something was wrong. I pulled over to find a puddle of oil in the parking lot and all over the front end. Once I got it towed home I discovered the steering crossmember was bent and my rack pushed into the oil pan.

Now for the wait on what my insurance will do, here's some pics of the damage..

Skid plate took quite a bit of beating over time, I'm sure the damage would have been a lot worst without it..

Notice the plates are shifted over a bit so my tires go in between them, that corner is what I hit.

This is what they should look like.

In the mean time I'll just have to drive this thing..

I'm on the fence with it now, I want to notch it and get the back a lot lower but not sure how much on the front yet. I'd like to tub it and get some Q's under there for better ride for now, but with the bigger motor it's going to be hard to get my foot off the pedal.

Dam dude that sucks and nice new ride, sounds like the old truck was trying to tell you it was not ready to go yet. Good luck getting it fixed and your insurance might be able to get the state/co./what ever dumb ass thet left that corner of the plate up so high and unprotected to pay for your damages
Ya I'm hoping they can get the city to pay for it, my biggest fear is them totalling it out cause it's part of the frame. The funny part is that I was gonna sell it to a coworker so It would still be around. If the insurance can get it fixed I think he might still buy it but we'll see.

That sucks bro. I motherfucking hate those stupid steel plates. They never take the time to correctly asphalt around them cuz it's temporary and they're lazy. I always try peeling out on them lol.

And you think the 3.5 is peppy, you should try the 3.7 ....

I can only imagine but coming from a 2.8 to this is just fine..

Man that sucks Jesse

Is the city or state not responsible if its not installed correctly?
Ya from what I read the city is responcible for any damaged done so I'm hoping my insurance will move it along a lot faster.

Oh was the oil pan punctured or was the steering rack leaking the oil?
Ya it was the oil pan, I was able to get my hand between it and feel the whole in it.

 sorry to hear homie...

Just remember Xavier is still gay and everything will be ok
Thanks for the kind works homie.

Sorry to hear man, the worst damage is frame damage so don't think it's too small.

Definitely talk to your insurance company and possibly a lawyer about it. That should be their problem because they didn't properly sink the plate. I have seen people win cases over small potholes damaging expensive rims and suspension components so I think yours would be open and shut.
Ya I'm hoping this will go alot smoother but we'll see.

Bag the single cab!
I wish I could keep both but I still have a project in the garage that I need to get started on and that's getting bagged and bodied.. :naughty:

Agree with the guys, get the city to pay for the damage.
Every time I see plates here in Dallas I get scared to death

Nice new ride
Same here, the worst is when there redoing the asphault and then man whole cover are 6 inches above everything else. I had a close call with one of those before. :D

I hate those dang things as well....They use them as temporary patches because they need to get back into the utilities under the street and it beats digging it up twice.

Good luck getting the city\county to pay for it.

Yup and now I'm gonna need a new shifter from ya.. :naughty:

damn dude.

this is why you lift trucks, not lower em :kiki:
I'm too lazy and broke to lift a truck, especially now.. :ugh:

Bend the city over and get some money out of those bastards. Hate when they do stuff half assed like that.
:yup:

Damn dude that REALLY sucks bad. Hope the city takes care of it. I won a case awhile back with my rim being bent all to hell from a pot hole that you MUSt hit or go in the oncoming traffic. They did try to fight it but lost..

That sucks dude, hope it all works out.

I hit one of those plates in my static S10 about 10 years ago. Busted the oil pan, flattened a tire, bent a wheel, and some other minor damage. My insurance refused to pay for the damages. I went back out to where it happened, got lots of pics of the plate, then got a lawyer. He only had to call the SCDOT once, and they settled to avoid going to court. Mailed me a check for $2100 in less than a week.
