Looked around and found a couple of bumpers I liked for these trucks (laxxdog)
Found a fab shop that was interested and gave him some drawings
$250 later I had a new bumper, 2" OD tubular, and mounts welded to it using the factory frame holes that are for the original bumper.
Also got him to weld in a hitch receiver, probably will never be used but it looks good.
I sanded and bedlinered the whole thing before mounting it for good. used duplicolor bed armor, looks pretty good for one can of aerosol

thanks everyone. as far as the plans I made, still with the guy that made the bumper.
overall fairly simple, started with 3x3 by 1/4" angle iron and cut it long enough and for it to fit inside the frame where the old bumper was mounted, traced the holes, drilled them and welded the nuts to the inside. then made the triangle piece which was welded to the piece in the bumper and this is up to you on how far you want it to stick out.
then the tubular part itself, the opening I made about 3" so that when I mounted the license plate it would fit perfect. just two bolts welded to that back and a nut and washer hold the plate on.
paint is just one can of Duplicolor Bed Armor, aerosol can. turned out fairly decent

hope that answers most and ill try to get more pictures shortly.

can anyone with knowledge on this tell me if it could be used to tow with only 4 little ish welds holding the bumper onto the mounting brackets?

That looks great man. Hugs the body real nice.

Personally I dont think I would trust that to tow purely just based on how small some of those welds are that connect it to the brackets. Theres really only one way to find out though. Just make sure you dont test it around other people hahaha

From the pictures I don't think you could tow anything more than a REALLY light trailer. But looking at how the thin was welded together I would say that you shouldn't chance it.

Thanks everyone. The welds were done by a professional and are pretty good looking from the little knowledge I have.
Looking back I wish I would have done it different for towing purposes and made the joining peice kind of like a circle around the top tube. A big O and the tube goes inside it, maybe not as good looking but it would have been way stronger
