V-8's torsion bars vs. I5's..is there a difference

Does anyone know if the 4x4 V-8 torsion bars are different than the ones used on the I-5 trucks? Rated heavier? Different torsion rate? etc....

im interested in this too..... this could probably help us I5 guys when mounting winches and stuff like that on our noses..

I posted to part # for my v8 bars some one with a I5 go lay under your truck and get the part # and compare if you want to know I tried to help but I'm not going to research it for you I already climbed under my truck to help you guys:shrug::salute:

I was wondering about this subject because when I had my 94 Full size Blazer, the offroad shop put in Z-71 torsion bars along with my lift kit to keep the front up after the kit was installed and the larger tires as well. My thoughts were that if the torsions are rated heavier, I could install the V-8 torsions and not crank my I-5 torsions as much to achieve the same height.

We used to always install torsion bars with a higher spring rate, like the shop did when doing doing your lift, to address the "nose dive" resulting from the control arm effectively having less leverage. Changing the jounce dampners on a 355 to longer ones has the same effect.

I can post up the part numbers for all of the torsion bars (there are quite a few) on Monday if anyone is interested.

only difference between the v8 and i-5 trucks is that its cranked more to make up the difference in weight.

i believe its the same t-bars.

So I went out and got under my 2010 Z85 4x4 I-5. Apparently the V-8's have different torsion bars or the Z-71's bars are different as well based on Onelow1ton's part numbers. My part numbers for are as follows:

Right-20784567
Left- 20784586

Maybe someone with a newer Z-71 and an I-5 could check theirs.

Ok, different bars, but will the different bars fit the different trucks!

i see where you're going with that train of thought, MOZ, but people out there do design shit in some damn fucked up ways.

I would think they all should inter change just diffrent spring rates ,I thought I had read a wile back that someone used h3 t-bars on there Colorado but don't remember for sure

With my Sierra the 2500 hd bars would fit no issues in that regards the problems came about simply because of the degree difference between my stock bars & 2500 hd replacements. The front end measurement with the hd bars was sitting at 40" ground to the fender lip it was perfect for the height I wanted but the upper control arms bottomed out against the frame therefore acting like there was no suspension just the tires to absorb the bumps and could not get it aligned properly or at least reasonable.

I'd suspect that the torsion bars are all the same length for the 355's as they are for the Fullsize GM line, the issue may be just the degree change with the bar which may or may not lead to the same situations I had with my Sierra although since there is really only two different bar set numbers if memory serves me correctly this may not really become an issue. There is not a huge vehicle weight difference between the various model lines / engine option.

the 300lbs (CC) between i-5 and v8 can be a big difference. take your i-5 truck, and have a 300lb friend sit on the front end.

this would be interesting, as i'm about to put a front hitch on and a BullMaxx bumper on the front. i'm already cranked, so wouldnt want to over crank it more to compensate.

im on a similar boat, im soon adding an m8000 winch, a light bar with 3 hella 700 lights, and a custom skid plate, does not sound like much but all of it added together is easily 100 pounds... plus my stock bars have been brutally abused and cranked for some time now they have sagged about 1/4", im sure I would benefit from a beefier T-bars.

Yea. Not sure off hand what the bullmaxx weighs, but the smittybilt xrc10 10k winch has a 92lbs shipping weight.....

I wish I had seen this when I had my '06 & '12 side-by-side. But, that's not the case -- I've crawled underneath both trucks a lot and frame-wise I don't think anything has changed between the trucks--at least concerning the torsion bar mounts/connections. I don't see why this wouldn't work, but this is my opinion based upon memory.
