OK, so SSBC has pretty much canned their way over price and heavy ass Big Brake kit....Now what?

Well as some know here I can not stop after one major project is done......I must do more. And in this case there is now a hole in the market for a Big Brake kit. Going fast is fun....but stopping fast is fun too.....and it can save your ass as well.

So currently several members here on the Nation have constructed their own kits, but this involves more fabrication, time and effort then most members want to invest to stop fast. So I want to construct something that is easy......yeah, you get the package (yes, I'm working on something here) and do it in the driveway with basic friggin hand tools.... not welding, cutting or fabrication required.

This kit I'm working on will require you to have the 09+ rotors; if you have this already your ahead of the game. This will be a Wilwood 6 piston caliper set up with SS braided lines that bolt in and connect to your OEM hard brake line.

NOTE: I have confirmed that the 2004-08 and the 2009+ both use the same M10x1 IF(inverted flare) hard line connection at the frame. So my hardware/line kit will work with all model all year 355s!

I only have 3 items left to sort out - everything else is verified at this point
- 1) vendor to either CNC or forge the adapter plates (will be solid billet aluminum)
- 2) install the whole kit on my truck and ensure the OEM master cylinder will play nice.
- 3) wheel size......what will these fit under. I have my OEM 17" wheels still and I would need to acquire a 16" wheels to see if they clear

So without further ado here is the contents of the kit I'm assembling right now

1) Wilwood 6 Pot cailpers, they only weigh a hair over 7lbs each
2) Wilwood brake pad kit, for the street and light track duties
3) 1BADI5 caliper brackets
4) SS brake line kit, SS lines with the required adapter to be a bolt on kit
5) Grade 8 or 10 caliper mounting hardware (caliper to adapter /adapter to spindle)
- need to make final measurements, might be able to use OEM Trailblazer bolts

Now the sexiness of the this kit 2 point of interest...well 3

1) Improved braking - still trying to figure out how to get baseline measurements and after
2) Weight reduction - less unsprung wieght, the cailpers weigh as least 50% less then OEM
3) COST - how would a Big Brake kit for about/around $1000 sound(final price might should be within 10% +/- of my estimate)

I will update soon with some pictures and some of my mock up work.......I want to have the 90% solution before I post anything up!

Well once I do my kit, I'll let it speak for itself.

These will be a built to order kit......I don't have the money to have major overhead for sets of high end parts like this (mainly the calipers; I will be working on a vendor-ship to streamline my supply chain though).

With the above stated, it should be no more then 2 weeks lead time which is way fastest then the turn around SSBC had.....so that's working for us

Awesome! After I finish my not so super secret project I plan on upgrading brakes and suspension so I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure! Just wish Wilwood had 6 piston calipers available in blue.

One thing at a time :kiki:

^^ yeah I'm really trying to keep this as cheap as possible. The good thing is the design of the adapter plate is rather simple......so its just a matter of finding a local machine shop to take care of business without breaking the bank.

^^ I could, but it wouldn't be a true assessment.

I'm currently running 09+ brakes with slotted/drilled rotors, EBC YellowStuff pads and Stainless braided lines........ so the baseline isn't really a base line

Visited one fab shop today..... struck out there. BUt I have some leads on other shops locally that might be able to get it done.

The raw material prices might dictate the cost as expected.

I'd prefer billet aluminum, but that might not be cost effective. You should have seen the look I got from the one shop when I told him that's what I wanted......you would have thought I was asking for titanium

@Rex Kramer I'm between Baltimore and DC.

I'll check them out

Jeremy, glad you took off with this, I had started researching almost the same thing a month or two ago, but abandoned it when I ran into no rotors and hats that would match up together, I posted a little info of what I did find in the brakes section I believe @1BADI5

@evolocomotive @Asposato

Thanks guys........ the interest is building for this so I'm going to ramp up my efforts on this. At this time I'm shooting to have the first kit complete by the middle of next month(if not sooner) and test it for the rest of February(2 weeks of hell testing).

So I'm trying to have everything ready to go for 1 March........ just in time for yall to get those tax returns :kiki:

For this kit you'll only need the 09+ rotors and my kit!

Bang for the buck this will be hard to beat...... and stupid easy to install.

Hopefully this can the Mod of the year for the Nation!

I will order the rest of the parts this weekend and I'm hitting up another buddy of mine to see about getting the adapters done. Its looking like the first week of March is very doable

@1BADI5 you can reuse the factory caliper bracket hardware to mount your new brackets in their place.
Yeah I need to bolt everything up to verify first

I will not be supplying the rotors, BUT you can use any favor of the 09+ rotors. This will save on shipping cost of my kit.

This kit is built to use OEM or aftermarket 2009+ rotors, this eliminates the rotor supply issues that some "other" company had :kiki:

Calipers, pads, lines and hardware all ordered.

My mock up adapters are ready for parts to be mocked up. Once i have the calipers I can do a final mock up and send the adapters out for production.

@ZMBKLN

I defiantly appreciate your offers for the deposit. But, I want to make sure everything it good to go before I take a members money.

R&D is pretty much done. Now its final mock up and road testing.
