Washed the truck for the first time this year. It's just been sitting in the garage all winter so it wasn't really dirty but it got up to 60°F today and I felt the urge to wash it.

Things were going well until I leaned over to scrub the drivers side front tire. I had my hand on top the the fender with the hood halfway open when, "Wham!" down comes the hood. Smacked my hand good and had me pinned to the truck.

I was on the side and I couldn't move to reach the hood latch to get my hand out. Luckily I was able to slide my hand down towards the front edge of the hood and wiggle my hand free and escape. Had me worried for few minutes.

Motivated by the Redline-Tuning group buy that's currently going on, I decided to do something a little different with my Redline-Tuning Elite Hood Struts and give them a splash of color.

I started off snapping a before pic that shows the part number just in case I needed it.

Next I taped off the area that I didn't want to get paint on. Then I hit the stainless steel tubes with a maroon scotch brite pad to give the paint something to bite into. I followed that up with some prep-solve to clean off any remaining oils.

Then I sprayed them with a few light coats of primer...

...followed a few coats of Victory Red. Lastly I finished them off with several layers of clear.

Pretty easy job and I like the look of the painted over the stainless.

Here's a few pics.

I decided to turn them around. This is upside down from how Redline-Tuning tells you how to mount them. I just think they look better this way and I really don't see how it matters much.

Detail of the retaining clips..
